The best way that I have found is to go to the website and make a reservation for a few months further out than when you are travelling. You will find the rates much lower, as they generally raise the rates about one month out. It used to be computerized on a matrix that the managers had to activate to adjust the rates (can anyone confirn that now??)
You then have a reservation number that you can give to the E-chimp. They RARELY (if ever) check the reservation date (especially at busy airports), as the reservation # will pull up all your pertinient information, and they are usually concerned with getting you processed and selling that DUB. And if they question you, you say, "Boy, I made the reservation with your National Reservaiton people. They must have gotten the dates mixed up, because here I am." |
