I don't know what rock the rest of the world is under, but the USA has access to the greatest known supply of oil. The "Bakken" field in North Dakota and Montana is estimated to have between 400 & 500 BILLION barrels of oil, and is presently being developed. (Web Search 'North Dakota Oil')Had Clinton not vetoed the Bill in 1994, we would now be getting 1,000,000 barrels per day from ANWR. On his last day in office, along with the White House silverware, Clinton also denied us the chance to develop 5 million acres of public lands.
Refining capacity is a problem in the pricing situation, given that we haven't built a refinery in 30 years.
Valero is attempting to build a 400,000 barrel refinery in the Sioux City, IA area, but before you visit it, be aware of the traffic problems. The ambulance chasing lawyers, egged on by environmentalists are swarming the area.
