Unions work on senority to get promoted which kind of sucks when you want to move to a different position and someone out bids you because they were hired before you. Also many unions have not only monthly dues but a one time initation fee, I think mine ten years ago for a bagger was like $120.00 plus there's a new fee everytime you change classifications. If you don't mind being an MT or an MA for awhile then the union is the way to go, but for a position for an MT you are really supposed to get promoted as fast as possible.

Once you're in managment you're out of the union. Also if they call a strike be prepared for no paychecks for the duration of the strike. in supermarkets many people kept a strike fund going. Not too sure if any MTs could swing a month with out pay. I know I couldn't.
Aww, c'mon!!!! An ERAC union? What would you protest? Less hours? More pay? Do you want to make any $$$ when you get promoted? All MT's get a peek at the per unit statement not too long after they are hired. Meanwhile, you all answer phone calls every day from potential customers... Can you imagine trying to sell, "Well, yes, ma'am. Our prices are between $15-$20 per day higher than our competitors. All the same, you should rent from us because we're UNIONIZED! Hello..? ..hello...? Enough said.

Unions had their place in the 1800's and maybe in the early 1900's, but now the only service they function is to ensure that the cashier at the over-priced grocery store you go to only when you don't feel like driving over to Wal-Mart is paid $18 / hour to pass your purchases over a computerized scanner. Myself, I would say, "Go to college and get yourself a real education, you f*ck, and stop trying to make me pay far more for my groceries than the good people of Taiwan or Indonesia can provide for me.."
