Let me preface this by saying I am not an economist, so what I know about this comes from things I have read/heard. I don't want to spout off things I know very little about, so I will just give a few examples.. There are shit loads of website out there dedicated to this issue.

When Texas joined the union it was under a voluntary basis rendering voluntary withdrawal a lawful option.

•It is the only state with every form of agricultre within the state borders
•Texas owns more oil pumps, derricks, and untapped natural energy than anyother state in the US.
•Texas has Federal Law system, while the law hasn't be enforced since joining the Union the officers of the court still exist.. The Texas Rangers.
•We still have our own military. The Texas National Guard (not sure if any other state has their own arms .. ie the Idaho National Guard).
• The majority of the main roads leading to Mexico come through Texas. While I am not really sure if this is a good or bad thing (lol) it does give us the ability to Import and Export with an international country with little ease.
•Texas is the only State which can boast it has every type of geographical landscape. Mountains, Beach, Plains, Forrests, Desserts, Swamps. etc.

Texans have historically loved to piss Washington off. We have a monument showing our ability to say fuck you, we are going to do what we want. The San Jacinto monument (near Houston) was being built and at the time Washington DC said no national momument can be taller than the Washinton Monument, so they built a platform which made it taller by 1 foot than the Washington monument. (while this isn't ground to break away from the USA it does show our attitude toward our independence).

Do I think Texas will secede, no probably not. Again.. I don't have hard economic, or political facts as to this being 100% possible, but there is enough facts(factoids) that several people have tried to make it happen in the last 50 years and it has developed a following. Hell we even have bumper stickers here in Texas that say... "Texas Secede".
