Its obvious there are some people here in need of education. The following is the required time off for each situation.

general sickness: 1-4 days
emergency room visit: 1-4 days
hospital stay: 4 days to 2 weeks
death of relative: 1-3 days
death of parent: 2 days to 1 week
death of spouse: 2-3 weeks
death of child: 2-3 weeks

The author of this post is an obvious slacker. I guess he was expecting 6 months to a full year of no work and full benefits plus pay. What could you possibly do with 2 months off??? Grieve at the grave site everyday???? Drink yourself silly everyday????? Good job loser.
I lost my first wife 6 months after we married to a drunk driver and I took off two weeks to grieve and start over. It wasnt even paid leave either.
I my opinion you should have been tossed on your ass as soon as you stepped back in the door.
