Intern Program....Explained I recently finished doing an internship at the great ol Enterprise, and if any of you are thinking of doing it as an Internship, STAY AWAY!!! Want to do it as a summer job? Fine. Want to actually work and learn something? STAY AWAYYY!!! This is what a typical...wait...EVERY day was like. Arrive at 7:15. Start cleaning cars. Go out and start picking up customers, while the manager figures out who during the day is going to be buying the DW (damage waiver....you get graded based on this), so he can take all of those people while you get stuck with the people who he knows won't buy, which makes you look like a crappy employee. Clean more cars. Run out of cars, so get ready to pick people up in your own car, and yeah, don't expect to get reimbursed for gas. Have 10 people in the office who have reservations, and have 3 cars. Who gets the cars? Whichever girls the manager thinks is the cutest. Clean more cars. Take lunch. Wait. Eat lunch real quick (5-10 minutes) and then go back to work. However, you will have to clock out for the full 1 hour that is required. You will not get paid for this. Start calling customers telling them we don't have any cars and we have to cancel their reservation. We won't actually tell them we are canceling it, but we are "delaying it" for a couple of hours while their car is brought to our office. meanwhile, no cars are being brought, and no one really cares or tries to do anything about it. You will learn to lie about everything at this job. WHAT YOU WILL DO DURING THE INTERNSHIP 1) Clean cars 2) Clean the office 3) Answer phones 4) Lie to customers 5) Work unbelievably long hours and get unbelievably bad pay. 6) Have to be dressed up every day, even in 105 degree weather. 7) Spend half the day driving customers back and forth. 8) Be invited to numerous drinking parties. 9) Be shunned if you can't/don't want to go to one. 10) You will gain 10-15 pounds. There's no way around it. 11) You will spend the other half of the day dealing with irate customers. WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY LEARN (for real) 1) Driving skills. 2) That there are thousands of better jobs than this one. 3) that's it. You didn't really think you were going to learn, did you? Should you take this internship? No. Long hours, bad pay, horrible working conditions, terrible training, sexist employees, and god knows what else I am forgetting. Do me a favor and get out now. |
