I rented a car from Enterprise for a month, but the car developed a problem so I had to take it back to switch it up. About 20 minutes after getting the new car, I remembered I had left some things in the glove compartment. I called them and told them I was on my way back to get the items.

I got there only to have them tell me the items were not in the car and that they couldn't help me. Apparently, they had already re-rented the vehicle just after those 20 minutes and the store manager had not seen anything in the glove compartment. This is strange as there weren't any customers in the store when I left, and of course, I took the car back for the reason that it wasn't operating properly so how could they re-rent it?

Regardless, it's simply not possible that these items were not in the car as I put them in the glove box that morning and the next place I went to was their storefront. I'd doubt myself on this except my wife was in the car and witnessed the event only 3 hours before we went to there. There is absolutely no doubt now that these items were in the car.

That being established. After 3 phone calls to the store manager to request that she look pretty hard again for these items (worth about $450), she became dismissive and told me she had already looked in the empty glove box. I requested she ask the car prep people or the person who drove it down to them, but she didn't respond.

So, in the collective expertise of this forum, what's my best option here? If I complain up the org chart would it result in anything? Where should I start? I would ideally like to get my items back, but failing that, be reimbursed.

Please help, thank you
Yeah I have to agree with the poster below. There is no proof to the fact that you had anything in the car nor is there proff that it was stolen. Basically they are supposed to go off of your word and they are not going to because there are plenty of customers out there who fuck it up for the honest ones and lie about shit being stolen. I had a customer swear up and down that she went to the ATM, withdrew $500, left it in the car while the carprep cleaned it for her (monthly renter) and that the carprep stole it. She even said she saw him take it. I confronted the car prep, searched everything he had then searched the vehicle. Come to find out it was my ARM who cleaned the vehicle and said the only thing he cleaned was the windows and vacuum. When I confronted the customer she said that she was supposed to to go to the ATM, did not and forgot and thought the money was stolen. Sorry homie but you are probably going to be ass out.

PS. What were the items?
