I think the vacation thing may depend upon state law. Here in California, employers have to credit you with vacation on a pro rata basis with every paycheck. Get ten vacation days per year? You accrue them at a rate of 10/12 days per month. Your paycheck shows how many days you've accrued, down to the 1/100th of a day. And if you leave the company, they have to pay you for all the days you've accrued.
