How ironic...people defending the very company that keeps them away from their family, friends, and loved ones. I am SO glad that I am no longer involved in a company that encourages the exploitation of employees, and customers.
I used to work for ERAC in group 32. My region was once a president's award winning region, but much to my enjoyment, I'm finding out that region AA isn't quite where it was. Actually, they're floundering like a dying fish. The largest branch in the region has gone stagnant (perhaps they should have speculated what will happen when the market is saturated with ERACs everywhere), profits are WAY down, employee retention is at an all time low, and the current RVP is hanging on by a thread. I find that particularly ironic, since he came to 32AA from Florida with goals of having 25% fleet growth, only to have successfully run the region into the ground. Great job...well done! My friends that are still brave enough to work for ERAC tell me these things, and all I can do is listen and be thankful that I am no longer a part of this godawful company that ruined my life for the first few years I was out of college. First of all, let me tell you that I personally do not miss working the 60+ hour work weeks. I don't miss NEVER getting lunch breaks and always having to be the only one alone in the office during peak business hours. I don't miss having to lie on my time cards about getting a lunch hour, when actually I never got one, so that the state wouldn't come down on my beloved company. I don't miss lying to customers about "not having the returns we've anticipated, but we'll get some cars back very very soon." I'm glad that I'm not required to lie to any customers about taking the "partial and standard protection packages," only to have them come back a week later and have to pay a huge sum of money for coverage that they already had. Also, I don't miss raising prices to three times what a rental car is worth, simply for the fact that the customer's english skills lack, the customer doesn't have a credit card, or because we just felt like taking a customer for a ride.
I've slept soundly since leaving ERAC because I know that I am no longer involved in a corrupt business that prides itself in decieving its employees, customers, and the general public. I have a FANTASTIC job that pays well (trust me...they do exist), doesn't require me to lie, allows me lunch hours daily, and has caused my life to improve ten fold. For anyone fresh out of college, let me warn you about ERAC. DON'T DO IT! Currently in region AA, there are several area managers. The majority of them have been with ERAC for over 10 years, and the others have been around for longer than 5. The current RVP has been around for over 10 years as well, and there's no telling when he'll be promoted (if ever). Don't believe the hype. These poor guys have been area managers for YEARS, and have seen their careers go nowhere. Their business has gone stagnant, and the rest of ERAC will soon be there.
Hope this brings some insight into what potential employees will face. Be warned...a career with ERAC will only cause heartache, unnecessary stress, and a complete and total brain washing.
