Default Don't e-Annoy Me, It's a Federal Crime!

It's illegal to annoy... full story http://news.com.com/Create+an+e-anno...3-6022491.html

A new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet, you must disclose your identity. Here's the relevant language.

"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."

Does this mean that registration is going to have to be required on all boards now? What is your take on this Admin?

This sounds like an unbelievably stupid new law. I expect it would get hammered badly by the first test case.

I am not at all interested in using this law to pressure anyone to do anything. Read our Terms of Use; if you're unhappy with anything that happens here, your only recourse is to stop coming here.

Here Here!

I read this law and thought it had to be the dumbest "slide it in under the radar" laws I had ever heard of. Who in the hell lobbyed this is what I want to know.
