I've disabled them intentionally for two reasons. First, they slow down the delivery of pages because they're extra graphical information. I'm really trying to make page loads as fast as possible.

Secondly, they're so small that it's difficult to tell which of the designated emotions each is trying to represent, so they're sort of confusing.

Since I'm always looking for ways to make pages load faster and to make things clearer, I'm going to keep them off the discussion board.

The whole discussion board is text, with no graphics, and it's been shown that text is the fastest way to get information to someone. I always find that with smilies I have to stare at them for a while to try to figure out what emotion someone attempted to cram into so few pixels. Why not just say "That's funny!", or something equivalent?

I think smilies are confusing and slow people down. I occasionally look at other discussion boards and I find them just a confusing mess way too many graphics.
