Default Enterprise is trying to screw me

I rented a truck from them about 2 months ago. I had the truck for 3 weeks and paid for every penny of the truck. I didnt owe them one penny when it was picked up. When I rented the car, we did a generic walk around because the agent told me that 97% of cars dont have claims

Now I just got a letter and said there are tons of damage to the car that I caused and that i owe them $2,596 immediately!!!! I didnt do any of that damage to the car. Its nothing major and there is no way that it would be that much even if I did cause it.

If anyone can give me advice on what to do....it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you rented it two months ago, and you got a letter just now? Had they contacted you previously to this?

Why does Enterprise accept reservations and then not honor them? That sounds like the looniest thing I ever heard of!

when you returned the truck; if they did not point out the damage there and then to you then they don't have a leg to stand on. did someone check the truck over with you when you brought it back??

Being in Loss Control myself, I can tell you that its not unusual to get a letter 2 months after the fact. Since ERAC doesn't want to spend money, we're totally understaffed for the amount of claims we get. (Funny, considering that they just paid $1.4 billion in CASH for Vanguard, but that's another story.) Anyway, call whoever sent you the letter and ask them to look at previous contracts for the damage. 8 times out of 10 its previous and the loss control person is so busy that he or she didn't check priors and just sent the letter so they could put some notes in the claim that they are working it. I agree with a lot of the posts that ERAC isn't always honest, but I'm personally not out to screw anyone on purpose and neither are the other 2 people in my department. I've sent letters before, had a customer call to dispute and then found the damages. I'm blonde. It happens. :)

Have them pull the last ten contracts to compare and ask for a copy of the DX (damaged while on rent) report. This report should have your signature on it three different places. It will also have the date and time the report was generated. If you didn't sign anything, the damage was probably noticed after the unit was returned or damaged after you returned it. Either way they can still come after you for the $$, Sorry.
