I was recently scammed myself by an Enterprise. The car I rented was backed up against a major highway that made you walk real close to the car, there was damages I didn't see under the back bumper (they didn't offer a mirror). I am now being charged $400 for something that happened before I got the car. When I confronted the employee that original walked the car and that now found these scratches he agreed that when walking close like we did you wouldn't be able to see. These are not my damages. Now what are my recourse?

Recourse:

Call the regional vice president or general manager of the region/group.

This was a common problem when I worked at Enterprise. Why? Because we'd have 3 employees renting out 20 to 25 cars within an hour every Monday morning while also answering phones and taking care of call backs.

To thoroughly inspect a vehicle, by the book, takes at least 4 minutes, if not longer, and unfortunately most customers are Monday morning aren't willing for an inspection to take that long. Further, a lot of previous damage would slip by because there is no brightline as to DXing. Some say a minor scratch is not a dx, others say always DX it. When vehicles move office to office, it's impossible to know for sure what's going on.

Also note damage is highly variable. Some shops estimate 100 bucks, others 300 for the same exact job. You can count on Enterprise billing you the HIGHEST amount. If anything, this is a way to PUNISH you for not taking the DW.

it's all a joke. the company makes it's loads of money on deceit and fraud. If this was a public company, it would be no more.

Um, wow. OK, so because this company tried to commit fraud and charge a customer $500 for damage they knew she hadn't caused (they charged it before she returned) , this woman should CANCEL A CREDIT CARD, TAKE A CHARGEOFF, AND DING HER CREDIT FOR 50-100 POINTS? Instead of disputing the charges and alleging fraud on the company's part? I have no doubt you know the BWI location quite well, you sound like you're from Maryland.

Also, gotta love the misattribution of the quote in your tagline. It's Mark Twain, genius.

Avoid Being Dinged for Rental-Car Dents

......

After reviewing all of these cases, I have found no evidence that Enterprise was purposely cashing in multiple times on the same dents and scratches. A company does not top J. D. Power & Associates' customer-satisfaction rankings for six out of seven years by doing that kind of thing. But I do think these isolated problems might be eliminated if Enterprise's employees became as vigilant about the pre-rental walk-around inspection as they are about examining the returned car.

.......
It is necessary that they find as much damage as they can. If the car is damaged then obviously someone has done it. The damage report is written when undocumented damage is seen and then it is up to a loss control department to fix mistakes and refund people who were wrongly accused.

That quote is attributed to a number of people. Who is the genius now?
