I doubt you have anything to worry about. Most insurance companies btw, do not have a deductible for windshield damage.

So even if it HAD been your fault, the worst thing would have been a claim on your insurance.

Do you notice how when somebody comes in with a good attitude and has a legitimate gripe, nobody yells at the customer on this site and only offers good advice?

I have been in a nightmare with ERAC all week. I rented a car for approx. 3 hours to run errands in town while my car was at the dealership. The dealership called them directly, they brought the car to me. A very quick walk-thru looking for dents, scratched paint but the rep didn't mention the windshield and kept my eyes below the windows following his finger. I was told to drop off the car at the dealership and leave my pink copy in the car along with the keys. I did just as instructed even tho the pink copy was my only copy.

I got a call approx 1-2 hrs later stating I chipped the windshield. I told them I didn't have it on the freeway and and barely put 40 miles on it, driving in town. My son was with me and he didn't see anything either. I never seen a chip or crack when I drove it so I told them that this was a scam since I refused to purchase their insurance for a few hours. I told her that the time span between my drop off and when they picked it up I could not be held responsible.

A week later, I have received several calls at home & on my cell stating that I am responsible for $478 since they had it replaced. I received a bill and they charged me $50 administration fees to boot. I am currently waiting for their final decision since they are pulling the last 10 contracts on this vehicle to see if they can verify it had a crack prior to my leasing this car.

I have contacted my insurance company, the dealership, my credit card company, and I am seriously thinking about calling the local newspaper to report this behavior to warn others. I did tell a customer at ERAC this morning about their policy to be careful. I guess the next step is the better business bureau.

Any other tips on taking them down would be appreciated.

You are responsible for the vehicle until it is checked in by an ERAC employee. Good luck with your claim.

I work at ERAC and if your insurance is a big company you can have your agent call the Area Manager and complain. ERAC would not want to anger the insurance companies. As for the car being your responsibility that should be the case unless you were instructed to leave the car at the dealer. I have worked at a dealership and we do not allow our customers to leave the car there. If they do leave it there it's no big deal but we make it clear that they are responsible until we check it in. In your instance, you should not be held accountable if they did not tell you to return the car to the branch. Good luck.
