| I recently had to fly home to go to a funeral and accidently backed my chevy malibu 2006, rented from enterprise into a wood plank at 3 mph....It made 2 small paint scrapes on the rear passenger side bumper, which I added touch up paint to. I returned the car and told them I want to pay for the damage out of pocket since getting insurance involved for such a small scuffle isn't worth it. Does anyone know how much this will run me with enterprise? |

Enterprise will want to resell this car down the road and will not want the damage you did to reduce the value of the car. That being the case they will attempt to return the bumper to a "like new" condition, which will involve a body shop. The body shop will be closely associated with Enterprise and they give Enterprise great rates, but body shops are expensive. So.... it depends on the body shop estimate. If they actually take it to the body shop, the body shop will sand down a portion of the bumper and have to repaint, blend the paint with the surrounding bumper, etc. I would have to guess it would cost a two or three hundred bucks (as long as the scratches aren't too deep and the bumper isn't cracked). |

Its illegal to charge for "down time" or the time the car is in the shop. You just have to pay for the days you rented it. To answer your question correctly: It depends on how bad the scratches are. If they are just little scratches that took off some paint and they are on the bumper theres a good chance erac wont even fix it, bumpers take so many nicks and scratches erac only fixes them once when they go to resale for a few hundred bucks and they just eat the cost. You probably made it worse by putting the paint on it. If it does go to a shop erac uses their own shops and they will tell you the amount of the damages and see if you want to pay yourself or go through your insurance company. |

| I don't know where you live, but it's perfectly legal here in Utah to charge for down time. |

| Thanks for the replies guys....Some woman from the claims department (very friendly) called me on tuesday to touch base and said the car is in the shop and will call back with an estimate. It is now monday and I haven't heard anything, hopefully it is fixed by now. If they do charge me for down time, it better not be in the body shop for that long because of a paint peel. Next time I am getting that optional insurance. |

| The attendant was gonna send me on my way, I told him about the damage cuz I thought that was the right thing to do, he made me fill out an accident report and all that. Hopefully they wont charge me more than 300 cuz the damage isnt worth more than 300... |
