I was in a similar situation with a customer two weeks ago, and when we pulled it up on a past contract, the customer was off the hook. We employees don't always catch everything...especially if the car is wet or it's dark outside. |

| The same thing just happened to us! After returning the car on a Friday, Monday we got a call on our voicemail stating that everything was fine and that the $50 deposit was going to be credited bank to us on our credit card. We got the $50 credit, then one month later, we recieved a bill for $160 for a windshield replacement. We called to protest this, but we keep getting the run around. Now they are trying claim this on our insurance. What a scam!!!! Any advice? |

| All of you are whining like little kids!!!! Here's the bottom line (cause stone cold says so) You rent the car, you have 2 choices: 1) accept as is or 2) demand an inspection You take the car home and notice damage you have 2 choices: 1) IMMEDIATELY document the damage to a rental car rep (in writing) or 2) forget about it and hope that it will be mentioned later (RISKY) Once you (renter) become in posession of said rental car, it's YOUR baby, you are marriet to it (for better or worse) |

| Someone told me about this site recently....funny stuff! Having worked as an area manager for a few years before I came to my senses...here's what to do when confronted with this situation. First, most people KNOW if they actually caused the damage. If you TRULY feel you didn't do it...you didn't hear a rock hit the window, and this crack was definately there when you rented the car.....then here's the "deal" as they say.... 1) Contact the groups loss control department and ask for the past 15 contracts to be faxed to you/ your adjuster showing vehicle condition. **5 contracts back is NOT enough!*** It is very common that erac employees either rush through the rental check-out procedures because they are are typically running LATE for the next deal. Also, many employees do not mark damages on the contract properly, (theoretically...they are not supposed to rent ANY car with ANY type of damage....EVER)....that's managements typical fair tale dream world they see (having forget what it's really like in the trenches) ANYWAY.... I have seen situations where the past 5-8 contracts have no previous damage indicated, ....and then the 9th does! Here's another tip: Each employee indicates damage differently....some write "chip on windshield", some may draw a line on the picture of the car window, some may just put a "dot" of the pen on the picture where the windshield is indicated. So, even if you DID do it, chances are someone indicated damage on the car in that same vicinity at some point. If there is ANY marking of ANY type...your home free! TRUST ME...Loss control is almost EAGER to charge the branch rather than have to file a claim through your insurance company (the same company they are shlepping for rental business!) Management gets charged for damage (deducted from their PROFIT....which is how a manager gets paid) that was not collected through a renter, so it is in management's interest to pin it on someone....anybody! Another renter, another office they received the car from....etc. They scramble for someone to foot the bill. Chances are very good that the damage was there prior to your rental, so request a deep history of previous contracts...My bet is that if it was really there prior to your rental....you will find evidence of previous damage. Although this advise may be too late for this renter's posting, I hope it will help others in the same situation!!! |

| Anyone know what ERAC can charge if you do have to replace the winshield? I actually heard the rock hit while I was driving the car, and didn't buy the insurance, so I'm liable to pay for it. But, $400 sounds like a total rip to pay for a Chevy Aveo winshield! They're charging me $350 for the winshield, plus $50 administrative costs. Is this legal?!? They didn't tell me about any admin. costs. |

Windshields are pretty expensive. That's what the glass companies charge erac. Not sure on any administrative costs. That sounds like a bullshit fee. Do you have full windshield coverage through your insurance? If you do, then you might not have to pay anything out of pocket. |
