Default ERAC tried to burn me, but i got the upper hand...

Enterprise was recommended to me by my insurance company after I filed a comprehensive claim when I hit a deer. I went along with that recommendation, and made reservations to pick up car.

As an aside, I gotta say the whole 'suit and tie, we're here to help, have a nice day' attitude these guys take strikes me as very pretentious, and a little creepy.

So I pick up the car and we do a walk around. I'm taking note of the dings and scratches and he's marking them down on a little clipboard. Little dots on a 1.5x1.5 inch square on the sheet. I assume he's writing everything down correctly, I mean he's the expert right? Yeah, right...

When I bring the car back the next week, another young, creepy, pretentious suit does a walk around. He comes back in and says there are 2 new dents on the car that aren't recorded in the computer.

I tell him that they were they're already, and the other guy marked them down on the sheet. Nope, just dots, no X's.... Bastards.

Well, I refused to pay anything, I refused to sign anything. They can take it up with whoever they like. We'll see what happens.

So wearing a suit and tie to work in an office is pretentious and creepy? What do you wear, bib overalls and a straw hat? As for the damage, it depends on how big it is. If you story's true and it's just a ding they probably won't even repair it and you have nothing to worry about.

You should take some lessons in logical fallacies. You've presented 2 of them in the first part of your reply.

First of all, I did not say that a suit and tie is pretentious and creepy. I said these Enterprises' employees presentation of the 'suit and tie, we're here to help, have a nice day' attitude was pretentious and creepy. Using the 'Straw Man' fallacy to avoid the point I made doesn't support your position that my premise is false.

Secondly, using 'Ad Hominem Abusive' to make inferences about my personal grooming choices also completely avoids the point. What I wear has nothing whatsoever to do with my argument.

If you're going to dispute my first premise, please put a bit more thought into your reply.

As for the second part of your reply, I do hope you are right, and the whole thing goes away. No doubt they will nail some other poor, hapless sucker for a $500 charge.

Lesson learned. Stay away from Enterprise.

The CEO's has a misconception about his customers actually caring about the employees attire. He feels that customers will want to build long lasting relationships with Enterprise simply because we look "professional" wearing white shirts and ties. Little does he realize that 99% of customers don't give a damn, most people simply view rentals cars as a commodity good and will rent a car from the cheapest provider.

God forbid that Enterprise changes and will allow us monkeys to wear collared golf shirts and dockers.

Andy, the fifties have come and gone. Why dont we try to make a conscious effort this year and make the company more up to date by losing the white shirt and ties.

Yes, polo shirts would lighten the mood a little.

I always get a kick out of some of the responses on this site. Straw Man and Ad Hominem fallacies? I didn't realize this is a critical thinking course? You really should meet the guy in the religion thread who is trying to enroll new students in theological studies. You two could put your heads together and form the foundation of a Liberal Arts college at some new university. You could call it Condescending U.

So what happened? Did you have to pay? I think you should ask the loss control person what a "Dot" means. If you didn't hear from loss control yet, then they probably saw your contract and just closed it out without ever callling you back. If your contract has some damage marked on it then you are probably in good shape.

Perhaps, but then would you really want to see some of your male coworkers wear a tight, short sleeve shirt???
