how deep & how long was the scratch??? was it thru the paint? i'd complain...be sure to ask for the area manager's name & cell number & call him too. tell them that you will pay an attorney before you will pay them...i ALWAYS LOVED that one. they are typically too busy with cash renters that have misplaced their cars to report this on your credit. by the way...if your husband wasn't listed on the contract to drive...don't bother letting him make the call for you. that was always another of my favorites..."Sir, if you are not listed on the contract...I can't speak to you about this matter." Just be REALLY LOUD with whoever you talk to...they'll appreciate it in the long run!!

Aren't all spouses automatically added drivers on the contract?

If Loss Control feels that they are not going to get paid for the repair and it is minor damage anyway then they are smart enough not to have it repaired and move on. They may have this person put on the "Do Not Rent" list but who cares because I doubt she will be going back to ERAC. This should be the case only if it is deletable damage. Again, good luck with those bastards.
The BM does not send someone to collections for damage to a vehicle. Once a DX is made the issue is handled by loss control and the branch is no longer involved.

You are right but the BM is the one who sends a customer's name into his ARM or to loss control to be sent to collections.

The ERAC employee pointed it out to my husband when he returned the car and told him to go inside and pay $100. My husband refused and left, thinking the insurance would cover it. Needless to say we received a bill in the mail from ERAC for $600. $500 to repair the scratch and $100 in administrative fees. Now, I admit I am responsible for the damages done to the car but what I am upset about is the excessive charge. I also think it's a little too convenient that the damage is exactly $500 (everyone's deductible). And after reading some of the threads here, it seems like they do a blanket charge of $500 for any damage because they know if they charge more insurance companies will have to be involved. Do I have any other options? Or am I at their mercy?
Husband refused and left.........that will solve all problems. Tell him to be a little bit more mature instead of acting like an asshole. If he didn't act like an ass and talked to the Manager like an adult, you might not be in this position. Pay the money and get on with your life.

You are both correct, but under different circumstances. I have dealt with this situation before; the customer refused to pay for damages done to our vehicle and after the Enterprise 90-day mark, they were sent to collections by our LC Administrator.

It was really smart of you to go to a website called Failing Enterprise looking for help w/ you situation. If you call ERAC then they always do what is right. If you returned the car damaged then you will have to pay. The labor rate and parts charge that ERAC's shops charge is by far the lowest in the industry. You should have purchased the cdw when you rented. It's the worry free driving package. It is much less than $600. Better luck next time

wow...you must have GREAT numbers...i might even take cdw next time i rent. by the way...no...nobody's name is implied on a legal contract. if you work for erac (your attitude screams YES) then why are YOU on an anti-ERAC website...better hope they don't catch ya...might as well have your resume posted on hotjobs.com!
