as a current employee of this impossible company, i can tell you whole-heartedly...yes...they will make you pay for the damage. follow these steps and you have a fighting chance:

1) someone from the "loss control" department will contact you. they handle all the claims on enterprise damaged cars and make the final call on if they legally can pursue you for damages. they get yelled at all day long by people who truly try and beat the system; so be nice and calm to them...but be logical. if you fly off the handle, they will do whatever they can to make your life difficult.

2)your ammunition is reasonable doubt. loss control people have worked in rental. they know what it is like to be busy, or check a car in/out in the rain, etc, etc. they know rental employees make mistakes, so they will believe you when you say the person only "glanced" at the car.

3) super reasonable doubt. if all else fails, blame the bodyshop. "i dropped the car at the shop on this day, and enterprise called me on this day " a few days difference?? TRUST me....alot can happen to a car in a few days. say the bodyshop guys must have moved the car, or better, MUST have damaged the car. at that point, its a he said/she said. enterprise does not like lawsuits, and if this conversation trends that way..they will just write off the damges.

hope this helps,

Last week my car was at a local body shop getting fixed because my friend's neighbor's daughter backed into it. The body shop uses Enterprise (which is just down the street) as their rental car service.

I drop off my car last Monday and an Enterprise guy is there waiting for me to give me a car for the week. We go through the normal paperwork, then we go outside, he "inspects" the car to make sure nothing is damaged and then asks me to sign the papers, saying I agree with his inspection (he said the car was 100% fine after his 2-second once-over). So I take a look around and see that one of the fog light coverings is completely shattered, and I tell him to make sure to write that down before I sign anything.

Anyway, I went to pick up my car at the shop on Friday, and dropped off the rental. The body shop guys take the keys, I drive my car home, everything is cool. The car is 100% fine when I drop it off.

Today I get a call from one of the Enterprise guys saying one of the outer mirror housings is cracked, asks me if I know about it... I reply, I have no idea what he's talking about and the car was fine when I dropped it off and gave the keys to the body shop (this body shop is a very well run business, not a random hole in the wall)... anyway, he says he just has to note it, and if they decide to repair, they will contact me in a couple days...

So there's no way I'm paying for anything on the damn car, because it was fine when I dropped it off. I'm also not sure why they call me 3 days later telling me, seeing as they are open 7 days a week.

So... I suppose there's no real point to this post, other than me venting. I'm pissed because if I hadn't noticed that fog light before they gave me the car, they would probably try to charge me for that shit too - I'm just wondering if this mirror is something I didn't notice... Do you guys think they will try to hold me responsible for the damage (from what it sounds like, its just a cracked piece of plastic and pretty minor)?
2 questions, Why are you a lazy POS and why didn't you drop the car off at the branch to avoid this problem? Oh right, those two questions answer each other.

oh that makes perfect sense...why make ERAC's job even easier and drop it off at the ERAC location when its so much more inconvenient to, oh I dunno, drop the rental off at the body shop where YOUR car is?

ERAC is a "customer service" retail industry...meaning, as much as it sucks for you as an employee...its all about customer ease. 99 of 100 body shop renters will drop the car off at the body shop for reasons such as A) they were told to and B) common sense.

So...nice try troll...try again

right on
part of the marketing ERAC promises to bodyshops is the ease of renting for customers...and this means the cs gets the car delivered to the BS and gets to drop it off

Of note: the employee that called me said they did pick up the car on Friday - however, I don't know how long the car was sitting there (or moved) before it was picked up. I still also don't know why they would wait multiple days to call me. This particular branch's hours are:

Monday 7:30 am 6:00 pm
Tuesday 7:30 am 6:00 pm
Wednesday 7:30 am 6:00 pm
Thursday 7:30 am 6:00 pm
Friday 7:30 am 6:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am Noon
Sunday Closed

I did drop off the car on Friday around 5:00pm...

You are dumb as a mule and twice as ugly. For starters, 99% don't drop the cars off at body shops and second of all you're retarded. Third of all, there, allegedly, would be no damage on the car if he returned at enterprise and Mr POS would not be complaining online about it. Wouldn't that be easier for him and not for enterprise? Did you understand that? I tried typing slowly so you would....hobbit

Well obviously you are highly qualified to work at Enterprise judging by your debating skills and command of the English language.

Enterprise offers the service of dropping off the rental at the body shop for customer convenience. The reason is not because of laziness, but because of service. Its the lazy MTs like you who are slam customers who return the rental and believe they are free and clear when you believe every deal is inconvenient and a pain in the ass bc you are wasting your college degrees washing cars and working in retail.

Yes, in theory if everyone returned their rental to the branch, your job would be easier (if possible). However, most people are already being inconvenienced enough by having their car fixed at the body shop and Enterprise tries to ease that experience (oh my god, am I commending ERAC for something...)

You need to settle down, remember that you work at Enterprise, and try to respond coherantly.

Apparently it was a good argument since I made you see a side you hadn't seen before. Also, my command of the English language is excellent. I used to work at ERAC so I am aware why they offer the service and I used to love hopping in a car to pick up a drop because it got me out of the branch. What you fail to understand with your peanut of a brain is what MR. POS with a peanut of a brain also failed to understand: The car would be sitting there over three days (how many branches are open 7 days a week? He's a LIAR!). Would you leave $10K of property you are responsible sitting around for unsupervised for 3 days? I guess you would peanut. I bet you looked cute in green my little peanut. Yes you do! I'm undercover for ERAC and I just made you say good things about ERAC! BOO-YAHHH!

I can end this back and forth right now --

1) Erac makes life easier on themselves by letting customers drop at the shop and then picks the cars up later.
2) Shops tell customers to drop at the shop.
3) A customer who drops a $15000 car at the shop and gives the keys to someone other than the owner to save time is looking for trouble.

Answer: All that matters is #3 - So pay for the damage.

ps I hate erac.
