Default ERAC & DUIs

When I was hired I was under the impression that getting a DUI means immediate termination. After working here for a while I found out there are many people in my region who have DUIs. How can this be?

I know of a few people in the 24DD Region that have a DUI and still had jobs. They were either driven by their parents and then stayed in the branch until their time was up or were given cushy jobs inside insurance companies. I bet the insurance companies would love to know that.

Depends on if you are a "star" or not when you get your DUI. You could go to admin for a while, work at the airport etc.

You are 100% right, you need to be a star for them to want to keep you, normally if you are an MT or MA forget about it you are gone, ASST MGR and up you have to show real great potential. Personally I got nabbed with a DUI plead down to reckless driving (really good lawyer), but it was right after I got promoted to accounting so it was a little different. My ERAC punishment was I was not eligible for promotion for 1 year and I couldn't drive an ERAC car for 2 years.

It's all about who you are and what you are. It's favoritism, point blank.

We had a city manager who got a DUI in his company car after a happy hour- flipped it and totalled it. Kept his job, his license and his (new) company car privileges. He also paid for the wreck via payroll deductions (as I recall his commission checks went directly to pay for the damages for about 6 months)

We also had a newbie MT (4 months) who got a DUI off hours and was terminated without question.

Others have been put in "nondriving" positions, sent to a callback center or in-house insurance company rep, or to admin if a position was open.

I guess it depends where you are. In Canada if you are convicted of a DUI you lose your license for 1 year and you lose your job automatically.

Yeah, but you can still sit in your backwoods cabin, drink Molson, talk about hockey, and say "Hey, hoser" to your friends.

That was just on TV?

Never mind...

Wrong again my American friend.....you can appeal the conviction and if our friend, Mr. Police, does not show up, you are scott free!
Secondly, at ERAC in Canada, you do not lose your job...you go in-house for your tenture and then come out...

the laws have changed recently in Ontario. If you get a DUI, you lose your license for a year and then have to get an ignition interlock system on your vehicle. not exactly a practical addition to a rental fleet.

That is only on a second offence, jerk-off.
