Ok, I stand corrected. I would imagine, though, that MOST areas are not like this, and that probably you are a top-performing manager in that high-cost region. Would that be fair to say?

Either way, I think it definitely IS true that becoming an ARM in most places (to say nothing of GRM or GM) is a lot more like hitting the lottery than their "pay-for-performance" tripe. Always seemed to me that the most deserving people almost never got the promotions.

Ironically, the rumor I had heard was the Vanguard and DTG were going to merge, which makes sense to be in Tulsa.

That was a rumor planted by VG's parent company to entice EP to make a quick decision to buy before DTAG...but DTAG was NEVER interested...the old sales tactic..."you have to decide quick as I have another very serious buyer..."

I just found out about ERAC buying Alamo-National and I feel sorry for all those involved. I worked for ERAC for two years before quitting due to extreme stress and a stroke then went to Premier RAC which was a small but excellent company to work for. Budget bought Premier and they slowly phased all the old Premier people out and moved in long time Budget employees. Alamo was next on my hit-parade of rental jobs but I quit after I found out that all they did was sit around an do nothing. I have no idea how that company lasted so long as we averaged about 15 rentals a day and had 4 employees at our branch. My branch manager would sleep in his office most of the time and the rest of us watched tv. I realized quickly that Alamo was a dead end (as is all of the rental industry) and I changed vocations. All the Alamo's in my city closed down a couple of years later, except the airport location, and I assumed they were at the end of their rope. Now ERAC is buying them and those poor Alamo employees are in for one hell of a ride. RUN!

Alamo at HNL is doing about 900 reservations a day, so they are going strong here. Only thing is every day when I drive by on my way to work at the airport, there are like 200 customers standing out in the hot sun waiting for their car. I hear the wait lasts for hours sometimes.
