So, what does this mean for the National and Alamo brands?

It wouldn't make sense just to rebrand them as Enterprise branches, because they'd be throwing away all that brand equity. Also, closing down airport branches will just leave room for some other competitor to come in.

Far better, I think, to keep these brands alive because then the three brands can take different slices of the market while monopolizing lots of airport counter space. Also, they can now be sure to arrange their affairs in such a way that they don't compete directly with each other.

Maybe by buying up these two other brands, Enterprise can reduce some of the price pressure they're feeling.

It will be interesting to see what regulators say about the antitrust implications.

Oh, and tens of thousands of National and Alamo employees are going to search Google for more information about their new owners. At that point, they're only one click away from Failing Enterprise.

I dont think they will close branches at the airport just move them were needed or use the extra property where needed. I cant imagine the Taylors running rental car companies under any other name.

You are correct. It will always be "Enterprise". That is the name that the Taylors believe creates value. I also do not see any current Enterprise employees losing their job, but I think Vanguard may lose a few, especially upper management. The Taylors are very big on working your way up in management, Just like they did themselves. I dont see anyone stepping into an area or regional manager position without going through the same process as everyone else.

That is correct. The National/Alamo name will not exist in a few years.
Go ERAC....

I hate ERAC but have to admit, it's a smart move, especially from an international standpoint.

You know what this means now? The yearly managers meeting will be held at Walt Disney World. I mean, Alamo is already the official supplier.

I almost took a sales position with National/Alamo. Thank God I turned it down! They didn't want to pay me enough. Yep, definitely sounds like a good fit with ERAC.

I guess we can now officially call it a Mickey Mouse operation.

"Green means go"
I guess ERAC has monopolized the color now.

Wow...I'm shocked at all of the dislike for Enterprise. I have been with ERAC for close to 11 years now and couldn't be happier. This aquisition is going to be great for a company of ERAC's size. Yes, most likely the employees of National/Alamo will be managed by ERAC folks but, they should just be happy to still have a job. ERAC is very concerned with brand recognition. Given that Alamo is very well known for their leisure airport rentals, ERAC isn't just going to swoop in, fire everyone, and do a name change. That takes time. So, don't fret and hey, give ERAC another chance. We are good peeps.

Enterprise has a lot more brand equity. There is no goodwill worth purchasing here. It is largely access to the space that ERAC currently doesn't have at airports and the ability to properly leverage the National Account service that drives the airport niche.
