I remember a German guy named Jurgen talking about a merging with a company in that same situation about a decade ago... he said it would be a merger of equals. Can't seem to remember the companies involved...but the other was an American one...something in the automotive industry...what were those names again...? Oh yeah, he was talking about how he was going to buy Chrysler, kill off a division, redesign the vehicles to get worse gas mileage, and steal their almost $15 billion in cash. Now I know where I've heard this before.

Now, honey, THAT is pathetic.
Slit your wrists and get it over now, hon.

Clueless Enterprise and Vanguard employees that defend their companies...what a match made in heaven! Clearly these are people who don't have a clue that they are being taken advantage of so a few CEO P.A.L.S. can retire rich...After VG employees were enticed to leave sunny FL [or the best RAC co. in the world] to go to the least desireable place to work in America to be left stranded there; they still haven't lost faith in their company? Keep believing they have your best interest at heart and get ready to receive your retention packages! Think Paxton will hire you [back]? NOT...

I HAVE RENTED FROM ALAMO SEVERAL TIMES AND I TAKE OUT THEIR INSURANCEAND I GOT FAIR PRICES AND UNLIMITED MILEAGE AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE,AND THEY DO NOT CHARGE A DEPOSIT AT ALL ON MY CREDIT CARD,JUST THE AMOUNT OF THE RENTAL AND THATS GREAT,BUT ENTERPRISE IS DIFFERENT THEY MAKE ME PAY A BIG $150 DEPOSIT PLUS THE RENTAL ON MY CARD AND THAT MAKES THINGS DIFFICULT,I KNOW ENTERPRISE BOUGHT THEM AND NOW ENTERPRISE IF THE BIGGEST AND THEY PICK YOU UP FREE AT HOME AND RETURN YOU HOME FREE,BUT THEY WOULD KEEP THEIR SUCCESS AND GAIN ALOT MORE CUSTOMERS IF THEYD DO AWAY WITH THEIR DEPOSIT REQUIREMENT AND ONLY CHARGE THE AMOUNT OF RENTAL ON ALL CREDIT CARDS,HECK THEY HAVE THE CARD ON FILE IN CASE OF MORE CHARGES THAT MAY INCUR BUT NO THEY WONT DO AWAY WITH THE DAM DEPOSIT REQUIREMENT,PLUS ANOTHER PRIBLEM I SEE WITH ENTERPRISE IS THAT IF YOU RESERVE A ECONOMY OR COMPACT CAR THEY WILL HARDLY EVER HAVE IT AND SAY WE ARE GOING TO HELP YOU EVEN MORE WITH A COUPLE FREE UPGRADES,BUT I DONT WANT BIGGER CARS I WANT WHAT I ASKED FOR ONLY,IT HELPS ENTERPRISE TO GIVE US BIGGER CARS CAUSE THEN WE HAVE TO PAY MORE FOR GAS AND WE DRIVE THE CAR LESS AND THEY CAN HAVE THE SMALLER CARS FOR OTHER CUSTOMERS.

Sure they have bought little rinky-dink car rental companies before, where they could ax everyone, and make those locations ERAC, but it is not feasible for this takeover. It would be arrogant of anyone at ERAC to think they can step in and run a National/Alamo location, just as it would be arrogant on my part to think that I could go run my local ERAC branch. Sure, its car rental, so the basics are the same...you have a car, you rent it, it checks in, you clean it, rent it again, but other than that most everything is different. Basically I don't feel ERAC is going to come in and "clean house" so to speak. ERAC does a good job in the local market, and we do well in the Airport world. For proof, look at the last issue of Auto Rental news, the market share for the Miami airport is in there...Vanguard has 28% of the market, behind Hertz with 29%....Enterprise has a meager 4.6% of the market. And that is pretty typical at most airports, except if its not in Florida than National/Alamo is usually #3, behind Hertz and Avis. My point simply being that we have had success in an aspect of the business where ERAC has not been as successful. Sure, ERAC will probably learn what they can from us, and then phase in some of their staff, but it will be a long process, not a sudden "Ok, everyone with Vanguard is now fired". My guess is they will get rid of the dead weight, and keep those of us who are good managers.
ERAC has a lot to lose this is going to work! They have all corners of the rental market now, insurance replacement, buisness, leisure. They also have a lot of employees that have worked their butts off and have been waiting for the payoff. May be more then dead weight leaving but that's the nature of the beast. Those of us from National/Alamo are have been down this road before. Hang in there ya'll....

You think your pay sucks now? If ERAC goes public, your paycheck will be determined by thousands of greedy fuckers instead of just one greedy fucker.
P.S. It's career.
