it pisses off employees and gives ERAC the upper hand to charge your CC
if you had taken it to the rental location, they would have informed you of the charge. at that point you could have argued your case for non-payment, and chances are you would have won, saving yourself all this hassle
next time you rent a car, i suggest returning to the erac location, regardless of what they tell you.
Cardina...Don't be too harsh on the customer. You know as well as I do they got the screws put to them in this case. Some grease monkey probably told them "just drop it off" and how is a customer supposed to know not to do this? I hope Memphis lights up that e-chimp real good.

Regarding the location-- I was told to bring the car back to the body shop--that's where I obtained the rental. There is an Enterprise counter there, noone told me to bring it back to an ERAC center. It wouldn't make sense to return it elsewhere--I was there to pick up my car. I had no idea this set up pisses off employees, and I don't think it should matter where I drop the car off so long as they sanctioned the drop off point. Which they did in my case.

I am grateful for all of the information, Cardinal. It's good to know what the other side might be thinking. Although, for the record, next time I rent a car it will not be from Enterprise.

no bro, I'm not being harsh.
i understand the dude's problem compleletly, i empathize
the employee proly told him it was alright...but we know better.
you tap that fuggin card w.o thinking twice about it.
easy and get's rid of the pended ticket.
if the customer was there, it wouldn't have been so easy...the customer would've stated his claim and most likely it would've been resolved.
lotta shady shit can happen just droppin the car, even if it's legal.
theft, damage, etc all gonna hose the customer if necessary

You are right, if he brought it back to the counter he'd be cool now (no guarantee on that though). But you know how it goes, I am sure the grease monkey at the body shop told him to just leave the car like they always do which makes life alot more difficult for the e-chimps. Memphis got bamboozled into the rental to begin with, he didn't want one because GEICO wasn't paying on it.

Actually, it sounds as if the erac employee that handled the initial rental was very helpful. My guess, from experience, is that a db was promised by the insurance company over the phone and was either never set up in ARMS or was initially set up and then denied for whatever reason.

If I were Memphis, I would simply go to the branch, although inconvenient, this will solve the issue of nobody calling you back, and ask for a copy of the rental notes regarding your contract and to have either the manager or asst manager go over them with you to rectify the situation. Also ask for the closed ticket notes, which would be any notations that happened AFTER your credit card was charged and the contarct was closed. In the future, always return a rental car to the location so you can obtain a receipt, confirm condition of the rental and dispute any charges that are of concern to you. This is where it sounds as if the branch may have failed. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
