Default An inside look....

I'M AN EMPLOYEE - BRANCH MANAGER

I can completely understand why so many people don't like dealing with Enterprise. In fact, I sympathize with you because I don't like dealing with a lot of companies out there for the same reasons.

IT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT: I know that making reservations for cars that are not there isn't right, but think of it this way. Half the time we are renting cars, we don't know when they are coming back. Not because we are not organized, but simply because customers keep cars longer than they thought. Sometimes the customer forgot their return time. Sometimes the customer had something come up and needs the car longer. Sometimes the customer just doesn't care and steals our cars. It's just as frustrating to us as it is to you. But if we never made reservations for cars that were actually there all the time, well then we might never rent cars. If we can't rent cars, then we can't make money. And I'm sure there isn't one person that can live without money.

THE SIMPLE ANSWER: Enterprise is a business like any other business. We must sell a service at a price. Airlines overbook to ensure seats are sold. Best Buy and other retailers offer great deals in their commercials, but those prices are on limited goods. Have you ever gone to their store and found out they were sold out? I have. Business is meant to be efficient in order to be profitable. Sometimes the stores do what they need to for business purposes.

I think that because we deal with cars and not televisions or clothing, the magnatude of the product's importance is greater. But it is just a product in simple terms.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: I can't speak for anyone but me and you can't speak for anyone else but yourself. The truth is all companies have bad seeds as do all families as do all charities as do all churches as do all groups of friends. All I can do is my best at taking care of my customers honestly and professionally. I offer upgrades when we have them and I don't when we don't. I offer a reasonable price on everything I sell, including damage waiver, but if someone doesn't appear to need something, then I let them know I have to offer it but I personally don't recommend they take it.

I have to answer for the mistakes I make and for the person I am. Not to you or anyone else, but to me and to my daughter. That's what drives me and holds me in check, most of the time. I'm not perfect, but who is? Come to my branch and I'll take care of you the best I can. That's all I can offer you.

THE PAY: This is the last thing I want to hit on. Many of the people that you are bashing are people like many of you. They are trying to survive paycheck to paycheck and don't make the tons of money Enterprise promised them. I'm one of them. I'm a middle-class white man in his late 20's with a mortgage I can't pay, child support bills, and a beautiful little girl I see 4 days in a month. With all the pressures I go through, just like many of you, be understanding that I'm doing my best for you. I'll give you a smile and some concern, but don't take advantage of me. I won't take advantage of you.

Derek, a very honest assessment of how ERAC operates. But a few things I would like to point out. Yes, it is difficult to know when the cars are coming back, and yes you should book reservations, however, when an ARM says to take every deal even if they need a car in 10 minutes and you don't have one how is that fair to the customer? You used the analogy of Best Buy, well, if they had a sale on tv's and I called and asked if they had one and they said they would hold it for me and I go down and the clerk tells me he sold it well that is not right. If he is honest and upfront and tells me they are sold out then I will try a different place. It is not right for him to have me come down and then say, 'Oh gee it's gone but we have this other model." That is what ERAC does, I know, I used to do it. ERAC needs to be honest with people. If someone is making a reservation for a car for next week, take the deal. But if someone calls and says they need a car in an hour or 20 minutes, and you don't have any, and your area has none, how can you take the deal? No one needs a tv or stereo to get to work or for a business trip. But put yourself in this position. YOU are taking your car to the shop, YOU made a reservation for a car for 9 am, at 9am you call ERAC and they tell you, "Sorry, overbooked, maybe in an hour." Now you cannot get to work or the business meeting or to see the client. Is that fair to the customer?

derek you seem like a solid guy, get the fuck out of enterprise
seriously, someone with a minimum intelligence level, which you appear to possess at the least, can do a lot better.
even blue collar jobs pay more...that high school dropout you see building houses? he makes more than most BMs.
that dude installing equipment at fast food restraunts is making double what a BM makes.
hell, after leaving ERAC i got a blue collar type of job that pays 40k for 40 hours a week, full benefits and a pension. my sorry ass BM who i felt bad for leaving was barely scraping 40k and working 55+hours and hating his life.
I used to hate my life and was embarrassed to go to work everyday. my free time was spent dreading the inevitable return to ERAC the next day.
Now i dig my job, my employees actually enjoy what they do and take pride in their work.
there is no bullshit smokescreen of future fame and riches. there is no sweating and worrying about if you will get a commission check or not.
there is sooo much more opportunity bro, don't squander your youth and your child's youth living andy taylor's dream
give me some general info bro i gurantee i can point you in a better direction
good luck

I definitely feel overworked and underpaid at ERAC, but I keep telling myself that there is more if I just hold out longer. Just got paid today and it wasn't pretty.

And you know what's the worst? Being blamed by your BM or ARM for not having the car! Like the MT has control over that, lol. You are expected to book every deal then get the blame when the car is not there. Gee, I wonder why turnover is so high?
