I am a former area manager and i would love to see the big green machine get stuck with everything they deserve. However, when the airbag light is on, that means the airbag system will not operate properly. If they do the normal half-assed check-in that I remember them doing, there is a good chance that they may re-rent the vehicle to someone else. If that person has a collision and no airbags, they have grounds for a good law suit against ERAC. If they are hurt severly, bad karma for you.
If you tell them about the light, they will have the vehicle checked out and any reputable shop will be able to determine that the warning is due to physical damage. They will come after you anyway.
I say be honest and see if they will work with you. Your call. Be honsest and feel good about. Lie, risk someone else's safety, create a hostile situation, and have to pay anyway. You're call...
As bitter as I am about my time at ERAC, I would never feel good about putting another customer at risk on purpose.
