Default Enterprise fuel policy

No doubt this has been discussed before, but this is the first time I've used Enterprise. I was shocked to discover that, contrary to conventional practise, they do not supply their vehicles with full tanks. This is done so that the customer simply uses what they need and then returns the vehicle having re-filled the tank.

Enterprise on the other hand, seem to think that this is a bad idea. They gave me my vehicle with the tank one quarter full, and asked me to return it in a similar state. I asked them the MPG and the capacity of the tank, neither of which they could tell me. I had no way therefore of calculating how much fuel I would use on my journey.

Inevitably, when I returned the vehicle, there was quite a lot more fuel in it than when I'd started. I complained to the staff again about this policy, but to no avail. I've been trying to get some sort of response from their help desk, but my emails seem to simply be ignored.

I consider this fuel policy to amount to theft from the customer.

I will be recommending to people in my area (Hertford, UK) not to use Enterprise for their rentals!

Stop bitching you friggin tool! How much did you lose out on? A couple of bucks....ohhhhhhhhh! You are a crybaby! ERAC can't fill every car up with a full tank. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to make sure every car was filled?

I would imagine that it would cost Enterprise about the same as it costs every other rental car company to provide a vehicle with a full tank of petrol. When I was a branch manager I was delighted to see cars coming back with excess fuel because I would then use it and not have to pay a cent while I used it.

Yet somehow every other car rental company manages to do it. You should get out more often.

Look who's talking.

And every other car rental company does NOT do that. I have rented from several rental car companies and not one of them have their own pumps or a full tank of gas in every car. You are completely full of shit.

And another thing, how much money did this dullard lose out on? Seriously, a couple of bucks? I used to work for ERAC and I was a branch manager at one point. Because my cars were so shitty, I never charged gas. I even tried to give gas refunds if they brought it back with a little more (my ARM would tell me not to). But, I had to charge gas if they got the car full and returned it empty. Gas isn't free as you may have guessed. And because of some vo-tech graduates like the original poster of this thread, they would return the cars empty and because of the turnaround rate they would go out empty.

And I do get out often Admin, I don't sit behind a computer 24/7 monitoring this glorified hate site. Maybe you should go out and check out the price of gas before you start talking shit.

For the information of 'unregistered', I actually lost out by around the equivalent of 50 dollars - our government doesn't subsidise gas guzzlers in the UK. This is the first time I've EVER hired a car which hasn't been supplied with a full tank - which has been filled by the previous renter, NOT the rental company! You should check your facts before you start dissing people - no wonder Enterprise is having so many complaints if it employs people like you. I repeat - this fuel policy is no better than common theft.

#1, I don't work for the company. #2, if the prior renter filled the tank then why are you complaining that ERAC gave it to you empty? Are you high? You then just filled up the tank on your own for the time you had the car, correct? You are responsible for gas while in possession of your "hired" car.

I'm not suggesting they have their own gas pumps, just that they always deliver a car with a full tank. I've had 45 rentals in a row from another nationwide chain and the tank's always been full. Isn't that standard at all the major except Enterprise?

And since Enterprise charges for "refueling service", why do they pocket this service charge and not actually provide the refueling service?
