Some people are arseholes at the end of the day. Doesn`t sound like you had much choice in the matter as he stole the car anyway, but If I felt a customer was being abusive to any of my employees, they didn`t get a car. few yearsa go a regular corporate customer (who was always a bit of a nightmare), swore at one of my employees. My area manager was also in the office (the swaering was on the phone). We looked at each other and decided there and then that that person would not be renting from us while we had anything to do with it. The customers workplace were informed and they also backed us up. As for the customer at the top of this thread (who seems to be cracking the proverbial whip), he would have been told straight that if he continued to act like that he would be walking somewhere in a hurry, not driving it. The final example is one where I did actually rent a car to a customer, but was almost at the point of not. One of my MA`s was Spanish and she picked him up. Well she was writing the contract, he started making a few comments to me about foreigners over here stealing jobs etc etc. I told the customer "Sir, she is one of my staff, she has as much right to be here as anyone, and she has not stolen anyones job, and she is trying to help you, If you continue talking like this you will not be renting a car from us". The said customer shut up quite quickly!

Just because its not in the realm of your gnosis invalidates it. That is, yes, there are people like that. __________________ The supreme irony of life is that hardly anyone gets out of it alive. – Robert Heinlein

damn reading this brings back old anger some days i would leave this shite job red with rage...to be a success at ERAC, you gotta be a bitch and catch shit with a smile, something i could never do (and hence, i was not a good employee) but here is my similiar tale...6:15 on a friday. I was an MT at a small rural branch...since i was the only employee (besides a prep), i was also the manager. I was just about to leave when my phone rang. For some reason I picked up, knew I shouldn't, but I did. Right away I knew this dude was gonna be a clown. He demanded that I meet him at 8:30 on sat. at the airport with 3 cars. "Sir, I'm not open untill 9am and it is only me in the office on Sat. so I cannot bring you 3 cars." "WTF, why not? This is enterprise right? Pick you up? I need 3 cars at 8:30!!" This went on for some time, me denying and him demanding...getting closer to 6:30 now, and this guy would not take no for an answer...so finally I said alright, I'll be there at 8:30. Now I had no intention of being there...I'm not coming in early and I can't move 3 cars by myself. It's not my style to lie to customers, but this asshole would not let it drop so I told him that so I could leave my office. Flash forward to next AM. I get in at 9am, fill a few deals, and clean a few cars. At around 930am, the phone rings and it's the same dude "where were you at this AM?" I again explained to him that I don't open till 9, and don't have the manpower to leave my office. But I did have a few cars available, and he seemed more decent than before, so I agreed to pick him up. The port was about 10 mins away...I get there and he is expecting me to drop the car off to him. When I explained that i needed a lift back, he got pissy. "I don't have time for this, have somebody else take you back" etc, etc "Sorry, you are taking me back or no car." By this time all semblance of niceity on my part was gone. No "yes sir, no sir." either take the car or don't. The guy bite his lip and was like "fuck it, I'll take it let's do the paperwork" We had never discussed rate, the CS never really gave me the opportunity. But he was getting a new quad cab pickup, and my "bossess" had been drilling "rate, rate, rate" so I was gonna hose him. "$100 a day, and this is the only vehicle available" At this point the CS bugged out. With his wife and kids in tow, he started getting real aggressive. Pointing his finger in my face, calling me a bitch, threatening to take it outside. He had me beat by about 20 lbs and I could tell by his demeanour that he had more fighting experience then I. But I held my ground, ripped the clipboard and keys outta his hand, and turned my back on him. When I got to the door and turned around, held the door open, and calmly said "did you wanna step outside?" His wife and kids were verbally holding him back...I really didn't want him to hand me my ass in the parking lot, which he proly would have, but I was pissed and insulted. I waited a second in the lot and then drove back. I was really humiliated back at the office. I kept on thinking that I let this bitch get the better of me, what could I have done different, etc. I didn't even bother telling my ARM about this, I didn't think he would do shit except blame me for a customer not being "satisified." So I let the matter go thinking that was the last of it. Low and behold, while reading the local paper a few days later, the karma gods blessed me with the best karma gift I have ever recieved. This a rural area and even minor news makes the paper. On the second page was a article about a drunk driving accident that took place on last sat (the sat I have refferred to). Apparently a drunken pilot lost control of his rental vehicle in a bar parking lot, rolled it, and then tried to flee on foot when the cops arrived. When I got to the end of the story, it listed the suspect's name and address. I almost fell outta my chair. I dug through the trash, looking for the half filled contract from sat. The name and address was identical!!! After making a few calls I was able to get the full story. The pissy customer, after I left him, called the only other rental agency in the area and rented a truck. He then procceded to go to the pub, drank 6 pints of microbrew, and attempted to scale the lot snow banks via rental truck. This failed and he rolled the vehicle and attempted to run but was apprehended a few blocks away on foot. He was a pilot and I'm sure the FAA was not pleased with his DUI and fleeing and eluding charges. Karma is a bitch
