Agreed.

This poster is not gonna come back on here. How do we know the he didn't find the camera an hour ago?

Or, if the car was re-rented, how do you can one say another customer didn't steal it? Sometimes those cars get turned around very fast. It isn't possible to check them from trunk to trunk all the time.

And, not to really bash the customer, but at my branch we always asked people if they left anything in the car and invited them to look at check in. People would still leave things. And we were still always blamed.

If I had a lap top or camera I'd make damn sure not to forget it.

So, ERAC can be blamed. But the customer also has to share some of the blame as well.

My problem is that this whole thing is that one issue with one branch is automatically extended to the whole company...

The original post, IMHO, really belongs on www.ripoff.com, not www.failingenterprise.com

This is one situation, dealing with one branch, and is not necessarily a reflection on the whole company.

I can't tell you how many cameras, cell phones, garage door openers, cd collections, firearms, etc. etc. etc. I have either held for, delivered to, or FedEx'ed to my customers. At the same time, I also can't tell you how many times a customer has absolutely insisted they have left valuables, cash, irreplaceable family heirlooms, etc (my favorite was the supposed photo album containing the last remaining images of Dear Departed Grandpa) when we haven't even touched the car yet. The cars are not always re-rented .00007 microseconds after they are returned. WE go right out and check, but still, we are the thieves...

By the way, the photo album deal was quickly resolved by the area manager. A full refund of the $450 rental and it was all, "We never liked looking at that old cuss anyway..."

When I worked for ERAC in Houston most of our porters were illegal immigrants from either South Africa or Mexico. Everyone knew that if you left something in a car that was going to be cleaned it was going to end up in their hands and eventually at the pawn shop. Don't blame the employees that work behind the counter; they're usually honest and want you to come back as a happy customer. The porters don't care as they're getting paid very little to work out in the hot sun or cold rain 6 days a week.

Stressed.

Cooperation was at the level of “Hey, man we have better things to do then to look for your (already gone) camera, which aside of being expensive got around 2 GB+ of pictures.
Felt that Enterprise corporate culture is pretty much accepting this kind of things. Because it's should be pretty easy to find out who was receiving and cleaning the car prior to the consequent renting to another customer within 4-5 hours. Enterprise - NO MORE!!!
Does anyone ever think that customers are being dishonest and trying to get a free camera, golf clubs, jewlery, and cell phones on the company. People do it all the time. Books are written about how to get over on a retail companies. Logical thinking is if the thing you left in a car was that important, than why did you leave it in the car. Erac I am sure has never kept a kid or dog. It always seems to be a high price item that is left but always forgotten by the customer. Admin you should also have a section for customers who are failing themselves. Accountability is a one way street these days. Nobody takes accountability for their own actions and always tries to blame someone else. Blame society not Enterprise.

I think most people look at it as a way to get even with a customer. Or, to get even with ERAC. The MT actually gets a little power, do you think he'll do the right thing in these cases?
