...who didn't get the CDW, and boy was it satisfying. Instead of paying $30 for 2 days of CDW, he chose to "risk it" and wrecked our car. If you were presented with an option to have a "slight" risk vs. no risk, which one would you take?

I hope the customer is happy when their premiums go through the roof or better yet, they are dropped from their policy. This will end up costing the customer approximately $2500 over a three-year period. And all because they were too cheap to pay $30 in the beginning. People are idiots.........they deserve everything they get when something like this happens.

I do not get it. What is the difference in driving their own car and getting in an accident and driving a rental car. If they already have insurance, then let them use it. Your take is totally company driven. I have insurance, therefore I do not need the DW. If I did not have any insurance, then I would take it. Simple as that. X

Good point Sears. I only take dub if I'm in the car for one day, and when I do, make sure I bash a cement post or find a parking garage with some large pillars. It's really amazing how fragile a quarter panel is. BTW make sure you hit the rear quarter instead of the front fender since they're much harder to fix.

Well I would not go as far as purposely damaging a vehicle. But as far as taking the coverage if only having a 1 day rental, in NYS there is a loop hole. If you take it and then request it to be taken off b4 24hrs is up, they are not allowed to charge you for it. So you have the coverage just in case. I forgot to mention that in my post. People, be responsible and ethical. Do not let them make you stoop to a lower level. X

Say for example you are the average customer who has a 2001 Taurus. You already have a few dents or scrapes on your car and if you were to get another one it really wouldn't bother you that bad, because it is not too serious and you will get it fixed whenever you have the extra money or when you sell the car. Now lets look if you are renting a car from ERAC. While in a parking lot, someone dings up the door. Once again not major damage, but ERAC collects your deductible as soon as you return and files a claim onto your policy. Sometimes it is not about the money but the timing.......If you are only going to have the car for a few days, buy the damn waiver..........idiots...........

People that say customers are fools that don't take damage waiver are clearly still completely bought into the product. I was the same way one time when I was at erac. Waiver has its beneifits, but just like anything, it is not the end all be all product or service that is offered. If someone doesn't have ins. then I think they really should take it, cause that can cost them bigtime. But for the others, Erac trains its people to make way more of a big deal about the coverage that actually exists. Branches are not required to collect the dedcutible at the counter when someone returns with damage. Many branches try and instill this fear into the customer, but it's simply a preference of that area because the branch just wants to ensure that 90 days down the road, they're not looking at something that could make their paycheck a little lighter. Many groups don't charge loss of use because it pisses the insurance companies off when they try and do that, and we all know that ins. companies are their bread and butter. Some credit cards cover (although limited) some do not. Damage can happen anytime anywhere, but erac trains its people to instill a certain amount of fear either through a blatant or subtle sales pitch. "Why would you want to pay your deductible out on someone else's car?" is a common pitch...but the customer is most likely going to be driving to the same places that they would have anyways in their own car if they never got into an accident, so why would they want the coverage on another car? They'd have to pay their deductible out either way. My advice for any customer is to call your insurance and find out the truth, and don't rely on what erac tells you. Some eracers will shoot it to you straight, most will try and steer you into taking it. It's still sales and they just want to close the deal..bottom line.

Fine reality, go the 90 day route, i just hope you didn't pay by credit card because i would hit it up as soon as you returned my damaged car for the deductible amount. You people have to admit, there are rental situations when it is extremely advantageous to take CDW. For example, people driving cargo vans or pick-ups that are not used to driving those types of vehicles, same with 15 passengers, when it snows, when you just had an accident and another claim would get you kicked off your policy, when you have an additional driver on the car, where if they wreck it, it falls on you, when you are traveling in an unfamiliar city, oh i could go on forever. But alas, i could really care less if you take it. Why you might ask?? Because the most satisfaction i get in my job is when an a**hole customer, who right in the beginning said "I don't need that extra insurance" comes back with damage on my car, I love to see their face when i collect their deductible and file a claim right in front of them onto their policy. And then only to hear them bitch, "I should have gotten that insurance"
