OK, I'll assume you're not an idiot. just explain your theory that car companies would jump at the chance to build manufacturing plants to build more specialty cars and sell them at cost to Enterprise when there is a waiting list of people waiting to pay high mark up prices for these same cars. I promise I won't respond so therefore you won't be "reasoning" with me. If it makes you feel better I won't even read it. I'm sure there is at least one non idiot out there that would love to hear your explanation.

i can't speak for the other guy, but whatever north american manufacturers are doing now isn't working. i think it makes sense. i think his point is people are open to the idea because gas is so expensive. car makers are constantly retooling their assembly lines anyway and i don't think you'd need any new plants. they don't build new plants every time they release a new model. something to think about.

I agree, NA auto manufacturers need to make changes and hybrids are the future. However, selling those cars to a rental company at cost when you can sell them for huge markups to individual consumers is not the answer. It would also not be wise for ERAC to pay huge markups on these cars when there would be buyback restrictions. ERAC would basically have to pay the huge markup price and then sell the car back to the manufacturer at their price.

Auto manufacturers do not build new plants every time they make a new model, but this is because they usually use the same technology, frames, engines, etc when they make a new model so there is no need. If they are using completely different frames and technology then they build new plants or retool existing plants and retrain current employees.

I'm sure some customers would love to rent hybrids and I'm sure some would hate to rent hybrids. ERAC doesn't rent them because they are expensive to buy, just like ERAC doesn't rent a lot of accords or camry's.

I remember one of many weekends when we had no cars on the lot. I put some guy who made an SFAR reso online into a Poniac Vibe. I could barely keep a straight face when I showed the guy his "SFAR" I told him this suv was better because i got much better gas mileage the the gas gusslers like a ford explorer or chevy trailblazer. LOL no one in the office could believe i got that guy to belive my story and pay the full 69.99 rate on that vehicle.

P.S. i got that fool to take full coverage on top of everything else

They don't rent Prius because they pissed off Toyota. They would be the Prius's for so cheap, rent them for a few months. And then sell them for thousands more than they originally paid for them. That pissed off Toyota. So they will not sell them anymore Prius's. That is a classic case of what the Evil E(mpire) does.
