ERAC Aveo is a former Avis car I recently rented a 2005 Chevy Aveo from a neighborhood branch in Chicago. The car had 34,000 miles on it, body damage on almost every panel, and shook violently above 50MPH (definitely needed an alignment and wheel balance). The ERAC rep. noted twelve damage marks on the contract. When I looked in the glove box, I saw an Avis insurance card and other Avis promotional material in the portfolio with the owner's manual. This made me wonder...did ERAC buy this car used from Avis? And when does ERAC finally get rid of cars like this? Will they keep them going to 100,000 miles? The fresh-faced rep. told me that "today is a tight day...this is all we have." He then told me that these kind of cars are often sent to his branch, which is in a relatively poor neighborhood which often has problems with the renters. He did not know anything about the car being an ex-Avis vehicle. I guess "trying harder" means getting rid of cars before they get this old an crappy, and selling them off used to ERAC. |
