Default Am I being screwed?

I decliened the optional coverage since I have geico and full coverage. I got in an accident not far down the road, went back and the manager was like, see I told you to get the coverage. He says now if Enterprise wants to they can file a claim against my insurance even though the other driver was at fault. They got a ticket for failure to obey a traffic control device when they shot through a red light and hit my car with their rear bumper. I thought that their insurance would cover it so what is this about enterprise prossibly charging the claim to my insurance. I have geico and the other driver has nationwide. Will my insurance go up if geico has to pay? Im freaking out here. I always heard the optional insurance was bs hence why I decliened it.

I might add that the woman who was in the other car told the officer she accepted full responsibility for the accident and there was no citation given to me only to her. Enterprise did let me drive away with another car and not pay my 500 deductible upfront, but on the 2nd car I did get the optional insurance. Am I now responsible for paying the 500 when I bring the 2nd car back?

depends on state policy
some states have "no fault"
meaning no one is at fault and your personal ins takes care of things
if this is not the case in your state, then the other ins should fit the bill.
how much is your deductible?
that is all erac will get out of you for this
not that big of a deal bro, at least you weren't hurt

I am in georgia. Is that a no fault state? If everything goes wrong and I do have to pay the 500 would my insurance go up?

If it's determined that you were at fault then most likely your insurance rates will go up and, BTW, so will the commision your Insurance Agent makes! The Damage waiver is not BS, it's a way of ensuring that you NEVER have to pay for any damage to a rental vehicle.

I find it ridiculous that anybody would use their own insurance to cover a rental vehicle.

Since the other driver was ticketed you will not have to file a claim with Geico (I have them also). It will not affect your rates since its not a chargable claim. Go ahead and contact them just the same, give them all the info, the details from Enterprise's car etc. Let them know that the branch hitned they may try and file. At worst Geico will cover the claim and persue the other party thru subrogation which will also protect you from rate increases.

The only way that this would impact your policy is if you have a history of claims, pending traffic tickets etc, all together they may determine that you are a higher risk.

Oh, and by the way, I worked for Enterprise for 6 plus years, the LDW is not always the best way to cover your car. On the back is a whole list of exceptions that Enterprise always tries to use to avoid paying otu a claim and trying to file. My favorite, and it may have changed, was verbage to the effect that improper operation of said vehicle which resulted in damage was not covered. I saw way too many instances where they cited an accident where you were at fault as improper operation and fought/refused to pay resulting in a big isnurance mess.

In defense of the waiver, never rely on coverage thru your credit card. Their exclusions on the majority of cards is about the size of a phone book so outside of AMEX, you cant count on them to step up either.

I recommend if you can afford it to lower your deductable and use that isntead. A lot of times if you have a good claim record (meaning none at all) the price difference on your premium is not very large.

And if you are wondering, no I dont work for Geico and I work for a competitor of Enterprise currently.

Thanks for all of the information. I called enterprise this morning and the woman in the loss dept says it looks like the other person's fault so enterprise is not even going to collect the 500 deductible. I have been with geico for 2 years and have 0 claims, no points on my license, and no tickets besides 2 speeding tickets about 4 years ago which aren't on my record anymore. Hopefully everything works out and thanks again for the information.
