I forgot about that! That made me laugh out loud. I had a mercedes dealer with the worlds smallest parking lot and it scared the shit out of me to have to back out in the escort. good times:)

I can tell you summer of '04 every other roadside call I took was an '03 Ford Focus with the key stuck in the ignition. That got real old, real quick. At one point someone from a branch told me to tell their customer to hit the key with a blunt object. Only time I ever got to tell a customer to abuse the car.

Brought it back with bald tires, and suprise, they got DX'd for it. Another one was something like it had been used in a stunt and the hood was very badly damaged, but the studio paid to have another hood put on it before they returned the car.

That same office and some around it can be seen to rent some 350Z's, BMW 7-series and up, high end Merc's, H2's, and one also had a Cadillac XLR. That would be a sweet ride to rent. Wonder what kinda rate they get for it?
I'dd be curious to view the rental history for those high end cars and just look up the ticket number and see what kind of rate they wre getting for those.

When I worked @ ERAC, I would have rather given my customers a Chevy Metro, or Kia Rio, or a Ford Escort with 55,000 miles.
The Saturns were so low to the ground, that the driver & passengers probably sat no more than 6"inches from the ground, they all smelled with that mysterious funk, and customers hated them. Hands down, the worst fleet car.
However, they did come in handy for a GM Warranty deal.

Yes sir, I know your 2005 GMC Yukon DEnali is in the shop, its under warranty and Chevy is paying it all for you, we got you this nice 2001 Saturn SL2 to drive around until your car gets fixed. Cha-Ching!!!
this brought back memories, have to agree on the sl2...SUCKED!
another was the pontiac sunfire, those things would fall apart before they hit 25,000 miles and were the worst pieces of shit to rent. It was embarrassing to rent a sunfire, I never cared about pushing upsells until all that was available in the car class they wanted was the sunfire. then it lit a fire under my ass to upsell whatever I could just so I wouldn't have to punish some poor person in a sunfire.

When I first came on with ERAC in the fall of '97 in Group 08, we had some real stinkers in the fleet as a whole. Anybody that worked at ERAC in the late 90's I'm sure has fond memories of the Ford Aspire, Geo Metros, the Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique, the Buick Skylark, and my personal favorite....the Chevy Corsica! The Chevy Lumina was awful as well....the car was nice enough but the interior didn't hold up at all and each acquired it's own "funk" after a thousand miles it seemed. The Mercury Sable Wagon was another classic as it seemed to be the only decent full size option at the time, but people hated them because they were station wagons.

By the time I left in '2002, the fleet was MUCH better with just a few lingering Metros still around.
