Whats everyones opinion as to whether AMs and GMs who get commission checks should voluntarily give over some of it to their preps? Without the hard working preps, they would all be in a pickle and that commission check wouldn't be what it is. AMs and GMs do not like to wash or clean cars either and besides, they can't since they're too busy writing out contracts. So therefore, I feel that the preps really do deserve a portion of it. What do you think? Please share your opinions. Thank you

In a perfect world that is an excellent idea. But in the real world...lets face it, your on the bottom and you can be easily replaced. Replaced by someone who won't bitch about being a car prep @ ERAC, and will probably do a better job for less money anyway (probably doesn't speak any english though). It sucks, but that is the way it is.

Man..If I only saw my city manager....I think I saw him was at a function or when he did his rounds with the GM...When its stupid busy you can only leave a message and he might get back to you. I would rather not have my Area do a contarct takes him 45 mins to do one ticket!!!!

Thank you for that absurd, never-gonna-happen, moment that brightened up my day and made me giggle like a school girl. __________________ "Never trust a big butt & a smile"... Bell Biv Devoe

But more to the point... I will make that deal with you right now... Here's the rules: In addition to your hourly pay, I will give you a percentage of my commission check, anywhere from 1 to 10 percent (you choose)... But for whatever percentage you choose, I will deduct an equivalent $1-$10 from your paycheck for each of the following that I have to deal with: 1. Every time a car that you have supposedly cleaned obviously hasn't been and that fact is visible from across the parking lot. 2. Every time I open the trunk to help a customer with their luggage and ohhhh.... I'm so sorry, ma'am. Let me just go and vaccuum that out for you... 3. Every time a customer complains that a car smells smoky and can point to the still-full ashtray as the likely cause. 4. Same as above but can point to the lit cigarette hanging from your mouth *while* you clean the cars as the likely cause. 5. Every beer can, sack of marijuana, sexual device, crack pipe, used condom, or firearm that Reverend MacGruder / My Dear Sainted Grandma / Little Billy found under the seat of the rental car. Double score if Little Billy takes the "taste test"... 6. Any window in the car that is left so dirty as to be rendered nearly opaque when struck by direct sunlight. 7. Any excessive nasty fingerprint smears left on the on glass in the backseats left by the children of the previous renter. Double penalty if said fingerprint smears spell out an obscenity. 8. Any necessary fluids that are not filled. Washer fluid, especially in the winter, oil (especially when the engine siezes), etc. 9. Any glaringly obvious mechanical problems that could have been dealt with (or another car used), had you brought it to my attention BEFORE I rented the car after you "prepped" it: low tire(s), check engine light (due to gas cap), expired/missing plates, etc. 10. Any car that you decide is "clean enough" only because it is so filthy / stained / trashed, etc that you just get tired of trying and park it as "ready to go" instead of letting someone know about it. 11. Double that if you refuse to do any more work on said vehicle because "it needs professional detailing and you don't get paid enough to do that." You're right, and now especially more so... wanna try that answer again, Sparky? 12. Any time you gripe or complain because I have you stop working on one car to get another ready because a customer is waiting. 13. Double my money if you do it IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMER IN QUESTION! 14. Any time the lobby is full of people, the lot is full of dirty cars, and your ass is out back smoking. 15. Any time you leave the radio in the car on, turned up full blast, and tuned to the all-thrash/death metal station so that when my customer starts the car they can get in touch with their inner SATAN! This list is by no means complete. These examples exist primarily to show you how your actions "help" out every day in my rental operation. If I wasn't constantly having to write off lots of $$$ for pissed off customers due to the actions or inactions of my car preps, I might just be willing to think a little more of them come payday.... Take me up on my offer... please.... I would be thrilled if, under this system, I actually still owed a car prep ANY percentage of my commission check. Just my $.02... |

haha... DAMN!!!! you must of had the shittiest car preps at your branch to make such a detailed and "pissed off" post. but.... i will say your list is very funny and somewhat true. i will comment on #3... about cars that smell funky..... most of the cars at my branch have been smoked in multiple times.... we do NOT have the neccessary resources to clean/get rid of the smell... the commercial green liquid that we use as the "smell good spray" doesnt do shit.... all that can be done before renting out a smelly car is clean all interior windows, vacuum the hell out of it.... use the "smell good" spray on the floormats even spray it into the air vents... but that doesnt get rid of the smoke/funk smell... it just makes the car smell like chemicals..... it is a win/lose battle... our manager use to buy fabreeze which did help, but he hasnt done that in months... also, i've noticed that we NEVER charge a customer a detail fee because of them trashing the car or smoking in it... because it will possibly hurt their esqi or whatever..... what im trying to say is... if you want your car preps to do a better job... give them the neccessay tools to get the job done... a soapy bucket, a brush, and a cheap-ass shop-vac isnt going to get a car clean to its fullest.... ive seen some wash bays that are just a joke... instead of paying us commission er whatever... just use some of the money for good supplies....... but, it is the car preps responsibilty to point this out to the managers..... which i have done at my branch and our wash bay now kicks ass.... erac_whore... i suggest you kick your wussy car preps in the throat. - the original power prep Last edited by peoplejustdie; 2005-12-26 at 00:04.
