Default HLE MANAGER

I guess my question was more about what you feel the commitment level is of upper mgt to "stay the course". It might take years of losses to penetrate the market. Is Ford and the shareholders willing to do it? If so, my take is that ERAC stands a lot to lose. Challenge will be people to execute the plan.

Also if your Mgt has a one year bonus plan that reverts to profit based commission and no profit is being made.... how is this effecting turnover/morale.

I am just curious as these were the items the ERAC propaganda machine was squaking about when I was still there.

Default Profit

All companies want their branches to make a profit. And if you are a manager that is not making a profit - then you better know how to live on your salary only. That is why we make bonuses, not commission. You get paid a bonus for an office that performed above standards. I love this – it makes it a challenge. And I still know what I will bring home, even if I was commission based I would not rely on the commission check – there are not guarantees to anything but a pay check in any company. I have seen very little turn over in my 2 years working with Hertz. I have the same staff since I started. I have seen a lot of promotions and a lot of ex-ERAC come work for us in these last two years. That in it’s self should say something to ERAC.

I don’t know what Hertz Corporation long term ideas about losses versus profit. You have to remember we are a public company and we have all of that to look at also. We have shareholders and board of directors who look at this stuff. Our Parent company is Ford Motor Company and with their track record, I believe they will know what is best as we go. I have never thought about that aspect of it.

Default HLE MGR

Thanks for the response. Good luck to you. I would love to join you and steal a few of my old accounts away for the fun of it. But, my L3 non-compete would have the ERAC lawyers all over me... Kinda of funny though that a couple of these key accounts that I keep in contact with have asked why I don't go work for HLE.... I think they are willing to move, but are timid without a "familiar face". Since I left the turnover has been pretty bad and the accounts are ticked.

HLE Mgr: Your experience is appreciated and has helped me in making my decision. I've accepted my offer from Hertz. I actually was told I was interviewing for a MT position, but I explained to them that I applied through my school's monster track and that I applied for Station Manager. I was informed about the company car..etc.

I was told by the city manager that there is more financial opportunity where you are, a manager of sales people at a local location, while I on other hand, was more focused on operations than sales, and while my pay would not be as much, it was enough to stop me from going the sales route.

Any experiences you could share for a fellow Hertz member just getting on board would be greatly appreciated.

Samplewig: Congrats on your career choice. What position will you start out at and in what city? Once you know your location let me know. First and foremost remember that we are a corporation and we have rules. The policies and procedures were created for a reason. Just because you might think they are wrong doesn’t mean they haven’t proved themselves (the rules) in the past.
Also, remember like any job your going to have days that you are very excited and you are going to have days that you wonder why you are there. Hertz doesn’t throw lavish drinking parties, they don’t buy you Christmas gifts…but they do tell you thank you for your achievements – the old fashioned way. By a letter or phone call and a pat on the back.
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Sales, customer service, the tourist side and insurance replacement will get to you at times also. But, take it in stride. The hours will get to you also – you will work 45-50 no matter what level you are. But, I have never ever heard of you not getting paid for them and we always find a way for our employees to take lunch – the funny thing is I have to fight my employees to leave the office and go somewhere. They like being there.

The one thing that stands out to me during this entire conversation is, you could start off as an MT then end up with a manager that has never even worked for the company before the day he walks through the front door of your office. I have pointed out before that one of the ways for Enterprise to increase their retention would be to hire people that have absolutely no better opportunities as 'ticket writers' and this looks to be a perfect example.

HLEManager, how did the people that had been putting in all the hard work and effort feel when you walked into their office as an assistant manager? Do they simply know they aren't promotable from the start, or are they given some false hope they won't be just writing tickets their whole lives?

WOW, JeanHo now people actually are trying to find ways to kill you on this discussion board. You've got 353 posts which means you've had to defend yourself 353 times as jeanHO of course. When will DosEquis be making a comeback? For those who don't know JeanHO has many alter ego's she's a regular Psycho. PsycHO / JeanHO, ohhhh mother I might be on to something.

Default Yo JeahHo

Don't knock that fact that he can start off as a assist or mgr. I know where you coming from the whole seniority thing but if a individual is qualified then give him the position. Enterprise not only sells crap to customers but mgt sells fictitious hopes and dreams to employees. I had an Area Manager have the nerve to say,"don't let anyone dictate your career dictate it yourself", but when you have to have his O freak in K to get to the next step he drops the ball. I have a motto that help me in life,"Show me don't blow me". If you have the education and or work experience then go for it. Enterprise retention is nuts. Its so bad that this is probably the biggest website I've ever seen that bashes fortune 500 company. Hell even employees com erac come in here and try to defend erac and get run...

JeahHo: Wow, a simple congratulations would have been enough. I don't see why you are putting me down. Let me be the bigger person here and try to see if from your point of view. You are absolutely right in claiming that a person shouldn't be able to walk into a position while others have to get promoted into them. That is a valid argument. What you fail to realize though, as was mentioned earlier, is that some individuals are actually more qualified than others and can, given their educational background and work experience, walk right out of college into a management position.

I can honestly say that I got what I came for out of this website. I almost took the job with enterprise, but thanks to this site, I believe I've made the correct decision and joined Hertz. Both my bosses are great and I consider myself lucky to have found a job so quickly out of school given the current job market.

Many thanks to everyone here. Your time and efforts have not gone to waste.
