Default Salary, Raises, Commissions..Oh my!

I have a friend who still works for the company who was recently told by his manager that he would be getting a raise in commission at, for the purposes of this thread we'll say, 4%.

So my friend went on his merry little way thinking that he would see an increase in his check next month...of course true to ERAC style, he saw nothing.

Trying not to be a "squeeky wheel" he let it slide until the next month when he was sure that he would see something.

Next month, nothing. So thinking it was an accounting glitch he went and spoke to accounting who basically told him raise did not come through accounting yet because there is a descrepancy in what the employee was first told and what accounting was authorized to give. With accounting saying nothing more my friend was directed to speak with his manager. The manager kept skirting the issue until my friend exploded and finally got out of the manager that he was only authorized 2% instead of the 4% he was initially told.

Needless to say the manager made many, many mistakes in this matter.

So the lesson here kids is "get everything in writing" and start recording things in a "professional journal" if you don't already. One day this information will come in handy. Trust me!

The reason for this post was to put it to you, the general FE public. Has anything like this ever happened to you?

I was told by my manager that we would be getting Nice 'n Soft toilet tissue to replace the single ply sandpaper we have now. The next week, after I was done doing my business, I went to wipe, and it was still the same old sandpaper. I confronted my manager about it and he said that admin did not approve his request and that in order to get better toilet paper, we would have to give up scrub brushes for washing the cars. There was no way I was going to go back to using my tie to wash cars again, so I guess I am stuck with the sandpaper toilet paper. Sigh.

Ok that was pretty funny. I just wanted to see if it was my old group only or if this was common practice. Thanks for the laugh.

(The sad part is...that's probably true. If it's not pens, doughnuts, or booze ERAC doesn't want to spend money on it.)

You should have gotten a copy of the pay plan with the Area Manager's signature. A journal won't do you jack for good.

That is what I meant by get it in writing.

The professional journal thing works better for performance issues and lawsuits of that nature.

Who the hell gets only 2% raises these days? That's a bullshit story. What's that amount to...about $60/month? Send me his address, I'll stroke a check his way on the 15th of every month.

Back in my day we didn't get anymore than a 2-4% raise as we were told that is the most the company will allow unless you are promoted. My quoting of the 2% was to protect my friend. Those are not the real details I assure you. From what I understand he has started to tell people about his situation and I don't want people to know who I am talking about seeing as this board is all the talk in my old region according to people who still work there.

Long story short, the manager verbally promised one thing and then he took it back and gave the employee something else but didn't tell the employee until the employee went to him and mentioned that his check was short.

Sounds like ERAC to me.
