I heard about the Pharm sale reps second hand, so I don't realy know if the Barbie Reps are better than the Ken reps. I suppose it comes down to being able to hold down an educated conversation about the product you are selling.

If you get the opportunity, take it. Specifically, try to get into a 'Specialty Rep' position. General Reps call on general practitioners, they represent a million drugs and are competing with a million other reps who may all be sitting in one lobby waiting to see a doctor... it's very very rough. Specialty reps have typically 3 or fewer drugs, have the autonomy to head right back to the drug cabinet and wait patiently for a physician and have as few as 3 or 4 competitors. It's a totally different ballgame. As far as the base goes, it may be $40k for a general rep, but it is as much as $20k higher (depending on your experience and how well you sell yourself) for a specialty rep. The comissions can be outrageous depending on how well you perform. Once again, if you can get into the field take it and run with it until you figure out if it is you or not. The exact same advice I have for any aspiring ERAC MTs.

i would look at enterprise as a glorified retail position. it's awesome that you can consistantly be cussed at and put up with it. i call that a @#%$. you are marketing to fat ass grease monkeys and insurance agents on anti depressants...hardly the clientel you would have in the medical sales industry. you would have to make a jump from a blue collar branch manager to a classy drup rep.
