Default Stories: Over-demanding, unrealistic dealerships

Let's all share our stories about nightmare dealerships....

I'm sure that most of us have at least one dealership that consists of a bunch of assholes who put unrealistic demands on your shoulder. Then when you tell them you can't do these things, and that you ARE truly working hard and doing everything you can, they make some arrogant statement like "Well, maybe we should use Hertz then" as if we are so desperate for their business.

Well my answer is "fine!". I don't see how the fuck renting full size cars for $28 dollars is profitable, and even worth the headache and hassle of dealing with them! My manager even admitted to me that our sattelite branch in our biggest dealship is NOT profitable. I even had one of the managers there harrass me saying "you guys have been messing up lately".

One nearby branch to my location has a dealer so horrible, that they force an employee to be at the dealership at 8PM (2 hours after ERAC closes) to take care of ONE customer. They say "BE HERE or we are not using you anymore!" What a bunch of fucking pricks! WHY BOTHER? Dealerships are waste of time! I have yet to see a profitable dealer for ANY ERAC branch.

I think it's not so much that we're making a nice profit, but we're getting the deal instead of our competitor. Even though not much money is to be made, we have a car on rent and Hertz has a car sitting on their lot depreciating. Multiply that times 5,000 deals a day and it adds up pretty quickly.

The worst thing about the dealerships are these stupid service writers with no education talking down to us. Having quit recently, next time I go back I'm gonna treat them like dirt.

Try FCARS and up (including SFAR's and PPARS) for $21 and some change. At my branch's satellite where I work, our OP has been in the red for as long as I can remember even though we still sell a fair amount of DW. They use the whole "Hertz card" on us too. On top of that, the douche bags are always trying to screw us on certain bills claming they never received the invoices.

In my old deal the City Manager negotiated 17 per day AFTER TAX for everything up to a PCAR and they would still bitch if an SUV customer would not get an SUV. They were a GM dealership and would always say it was warranty and they back it up to change it to internal so we started out at $42 or whatever it was and then had to recompute. We thought they were trying to get over but no one would let us report them to GM. They would also have us stay until 7 or 8 some nights for customers who would never show.

Yeah, we're in the same boat at my branch. Our GM dealership nearby gives us about 80 rentals a month, and they treat you like dogs. But you put up with it...not because it's profitable (although 40/day warranty is nice) but come winter time, you need their business to keep your fleet at a reasonable size in our market...so you grin and bare it, and curse them all the way to picking up the customer.

They haven't tried the "hertz card" because we're way closer and we'll pick their customers up...but damn, I want to punch all 8 of the service advisors. Our other branch in the city includes DW in their rental agreement, so it's like 35/day and 5/day DW...which sounds great because their package is huge, but their reserves are astronomical...so it balances out.

Do what I used to do. I delivered all of my weeks invoices on the following tuesday. With them I brought a typed coversheet with all the ticket numbers delivered in that batch and a place for them to sign. Made them sign it when they got the invoices. Priceless when you tell a service manager he signed for the invoice on such and such day.

My Asst. Manager actually started doing something similar to that as of last week. He made up a spreadsheet with ticket numbers and RO and PO numbers and made them sign off saying they had received each individual invoice. Hopefully it'll help, but our OP will still be in the gutter :)

Yes! I agree about being spoken down to by shady, high-school drop-outs! I don't know what could possibly be more degrading than being spoken down to by someone who you know you are higher than, but having to just take it without striking back. There is one service writer there that is really nice.

And about keeping Hertz out...My manager did say that the purpose of us being at the dealership besides the fact that we are losing money DOES have strictly to do with keeping Hertz out. But I do NOT care what anyone says about keeping Hertz out, it simply does NOT make business sense to maintain a CASH HOG that is draining from the bottom line! So what if Hertz acquires it! All that means is that Hertz can lose money on it!

And about fleet utilization, my branch always sits ultra tight, we never have fucking cars for customers. We even have to send customers home all the time for them to come back 3 hours later and get a car. Ridding our branch of the dealership will give us the cars we need! Then, if we get fat, we can tighten up. But I truly don't feel that that would ever be a problem at my branch...

yep, fuck these service monkey pricks.
i work at a distant branch, nearest br in gp is 4 hours away no joke.
so i work in a real spread out area...customers come from all over to our dealership to buy their cars.
so a cs, who lives an hour away from my br/dealership, has a car that breaks down at her house (replacement dearlership deal) calls up extremely pissed, wants another car delivered immediately.
with only myself and a prep in the office, no fuggin way am i closing the br for one twat who bitched about a $20 dep
so i offered to pick her up immediatly but she refused, had to had it delivered.
sorry no can do, thought that was the end of it.
but a few hours later i get a furious call from the service manager followed by a call from the owner of the dealership. all of course ripping me and my business, saying we suck and they need us in the winter and of course the competitor card. keeping in mind i'm only a mt with a low threshold for abuse, i was biting my tounge...needless to say, the cs's car, completed that day, was dropped off at my shop at closing time, to be hand delivered by myself and a co-worked @ 630 am the next morning to this cs that had to have the car for work at a po-dunk grocery store lol
the kicker is that the dealership originally sold us the car, with under 10k miles at the time of breakdown lol
only business this is possible, sell a product then bitch at the person who bought it for it breaking down
fucking clowns i bide my time
