Re: What is it like...........to work at a Satellite Branch? I worked at a satellite inside a hotel lobby. Not even the main part of the lobby, but one where directly in front of my little desk, no more than 10 feet was a bar...yes, A BAR!!! With a big screen TV that I could see from where I was sitting!!! This satellite didn't do more than fifteen customers a day at it's busiest, mostly outta state or foreign tourists (high cdw! high full boat ratio), the hotel valets would park the car for you in a designated area for enterprise, had computer with internet access, provided some lovely "sightseeing" for this hot blooded male, and was no more than a couple hundred feet from some pretty good restaurants to take my hour+ lunch, and of course, NO PICKUPS OR DRIVE BACKS!!! Yes, you could say, this was a pretty decent assignment that was rotated about every two days. And yes, obviously there was the occasional drawbacks; you got stuck pre-typing hundreds of corp. account contracts because "You're not that busy", were asked to frequently check up on eveyone else's callbacks if they were too busy at the main, had to drive all my unused cars if I were sitting fat and they needed them (with no guarantee of a ride back (WALK BACK), eat it in terms of average rate cause these mo'fo tourists know online res is cheaper, and fighting bouts of the ocassional boredom spell. But what got me through the day was knowing I could easily watch the games on ESPN during the day directly in front of me, and at, oh, let's say, 5:50, no customer for the last 2 hours, just close up, clock out 6:15 *wink wink*take two big steps, sit down, have a drink, and talk with a beautiful flight attendant who speaks little english and is staying for the night only with her crew... |
