Default How easy is it to TRANSITION

How easy (or hard) is it to transition into a different department from the MT program. After a year or two can I move into accounting or marketing???

This is what they said on the website:

"Regardless of college major or professional experience, nearly 100% of our employees start out in our Management Training Program. This allows everyone to learn our business from the ground up and understand how they have a significant financial interest in seeing it succeed. As you progress, increasingly more opportunities will become available to you. You can choose, as most people do, to continue your rewarding ascent on our Rental Operations managerial track or you can explore one of the many exciting options outside of car rental. Areas include Fleet Services, Human Resources, Car Sales, Accounting, Marketing and more."

Any truth to this?

Not everyone is right for the MT postion. Actually, very few people are capable of meeting the job requirements and not burning out. MGR's and AREA MGR's want to keep their turnover percentages down and try to farm out candidates to other departments twithin erac to keep their turnover percentages lower.

A word of caution, make sure that you at least get to a manager level or compensation level that you are comfortable with before you transition to an admin role. (This will be a major time commitment on your part.) They will lateral you into the admin position and you will probably remain at that pay point for at least a year until your review.

If you are not happy with the money in rental, you will not be happy with the money in admin because you will be considered "overhead," a cost of doing business. You will not be "making money" for the company as you were in sales. You will be an expense and they, erac mgmt, try and keep expenses to a minimum.

On the flip side, you can use the combined admin experience and rental experience to move into a higher paid position out of erac. It is just a question of how much time you want to invest and how much you are willing to put up with. Make sure that you elect to move into an admin position that will transfer well to another company.

Good luck.

So a MT really CANT transition into a financial role like accounting directly from the program?

BUT

if "nearly 100% of our employees start out in our Management Training Program" wouldn't that mean that the employees in IT, HR, Marketing and accounting started in the MT program?

or another company lie?

IT and accounting both hire outside of the MT channel.

Yes you can if you have a degree in accounting or finance.

the thing with jobs at the administration building is that they don't come open very often. I worked at ERAC nearly a year, and I'd say that only about four positions opened up, and most of those jobs were given to managers that were burnt out and wanted to get out of Rental. If you're hoping to spend six months at rental then just slide into an Admin. job, it probably won't happen.
