| Look at this story from the Boston Herald Workers urge boycott of Enterprise: Outsourcing plan seen as union-busting - Business - BostonHerald.com Home > Business Today > Business Workers urge boycott of Enterprise: Outsourcing plan seen as union-busting By Jay Fitzgerald Boston Herald General Economics Reporter Thursday, July 12, 2007 - Updated: 11:00 AM EST Local workers and unions are calling for a boycott of Enterprise Rent-A-Car for what they say is the outsourcing of jobs in order to quash efforts by employees to unionize at the company’s East Boston facility. Meanwhile, the Greater Boston Labor Council is warning the Massachusetts Port Authority, which oversees Logan International Airport, not to allow Enterprise to operate on airport land if the labor dispute isn’t resolved. About 30 workers were recently informed by St. Louis-based Enterprise that their car-cleaning and passenger-shuttle jobs on Route 1 would be outsourced to a Texas-based company. But Jonny Arevalo, a longtime Enterprise employee, said the outsourcing announcement was made after workers informed the car-rental giant that they intended to form a union. “They started to make all the moves at that time,” said Arevalo, who plans to join fellow workers and union representatives at a protest today at Enterprise’s East Boston facility. The call for a boycott is just the first step, union officials say. Next month, Enterprise plans to relocate its East Boston operations to a property at Logan. Rich Rogers, head of the Greater Boston Labor Council, said unions will “bring the issue to the next level” by seeking “political pressure” to block Enterprise from operating at Logan. A Massport spokesman said the authority was not aware of the labor dispute. A spokeswoman for Enterprise said it has outsourced similar jobs across the country and the move has nothing to do with union-organizing efforts. The spokeswoman said all workers will be allowed to reapply for their old jobs with the Texas company. |

| They have over 1600 cars at Logan Airport today with a permit of 600 cars. Good luck trying to form a Union, erac don play that way. Good times when we used to rent people damaged cars saying take it or leave it. This location will not have any customer service, only customer complaints as shuttle drivers and car preps scream we are people!!! Another problem is they are all "part-time" workers so erac doesn't have to pay them benefits. Erac will get away with this and the pollution of the Chelsea River when they man those pumps at night and dump more chemicals the that dirty water. |

| Look AT THIS, LOL (Blue Mass. Group:: Boycott Enterprise Rent-A-Car! Boycott Enterprise Rent-A-Car! by: Rand Wilson Sat Jul 14, 2007 at 14:19:59 PM EDT ( - promoted by Bob) Blue Mass readers might be interested in supporting a boycott of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Enterprise shuttle van drivers, car drivers and car prep workers just wanted a voice on the job and a say in their future. That's why a majority of the workers at Enterprise's Boston airport rental facility asked management to begin negotiations with them for long overdue improvements in their wages and working conditions. Workers took action because Enterprise management refused to address their concerns about: · Unsafe Working Conditions · Job Discrimination · Abuse of wage and hours · Lack of respect When management refused to negotiate, workers sought a union election supervised by the National Labor Relations Board to compel management to work with employees to solve these on-the-job problems. Enterprise's response? "You're fired!" Enterprise management announced on June 13 that all shuttle drivers and car prep jobs would be subcontracted to a Houston-based staffing company and all car drivers would have to apply for jobs at other Enterprise facilities. Please contact Regional Vice President Mark Jewell and tell him: "I'm boycotting Enterprise Rent-A-Car until you stop subcontracting the airport facility jobs in Boston and sit down with employees to resolve their problems." Call or fax Mark Jewell today! Phone (781) 238-2010 or Fax (781) 238-2099 In the Boston-area, the boycott is being spearheaded by IUE-CWA Local 201, MassCOSH, the Chelsea Collaborative, the Greater Boston Central Labor Council and the North Shore Labor Council. The boycott is supported by over 25 labor and community groups. Rand Wilson :: Boycott Enterprise Rent-A-Car! Pictures of a rally to kick off the boycott can be seen at: http://picasaweb.goo...
