Don't let anyone in corporate fool you my lowley DD friends. They probably told you a story about how someone was shot in a branch over the amount of cash in the cashbox. I can assure you the reason DD branches don't accept cash anymore is because the manager of Fort Lee, NJ a long time ago had some serious gambling problems. He was taking the money from the cash box and replacing them with IOU's, but never paying the cash box back. Believe it or not, this story made the paper. The day after the manager was fired, they sent out a regional MS01 telling all of us not to take cash for safety reasons. ESQI plummetted! Cash is accepted everywhere! You try telling someone that you can't accept cash. It turns into a 3 hour conversation and you can kiss your ESQI goodbye. Why do you think DD has such a horrendous ESQI? So, don't let anyone in corporate fool you. Any new policy they come out with is usually there to monitor internal practices and their employees. I'll explain in another thread about the camera's they have in the branches. They are not there for the reason you think.

replacing them with IOUs...... "That's as good as money sir, those are IOUs. Go ahead and add it up every cents accounted for. Look, see that's a car, 275 thou might want to hang on to that one." -Dumb and Dumber

DD stoped taking cash because some braches in the old DD "now VV" got robed. not because the korean guy was taking money from the box....i remember back in 97 it was already like hat. and by the way that manager was fired for pocketing all cash rental and billing them to 999's....

I hope you all know that not accepting cash is ILLEGAL!!!!! It clearly says on the face of all US dollars. "This not is legal tender for all debts public and private" If the customer owes you money for a rental and offers cash. If you refuse said cash the debt can be considered settled in full....

I thought that United States currency was legal tender for all debts. Some businesses or governmental agencies say that they will only accept checks, money orders or credit cards as payment, and others will only accept currency notes in denominations of $20 or smaller. Isn't this illegal? The pertinent portion of law that applies to your question is the Coinage Act of 1965, specifically Section 31 U.S.C. 5103, entitled "Legal tender," which states: "United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues." This statute means that all United States money as identified above are a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor. There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy. http://www.ustreas.gov/education/faq...ender.shtml#q1
