Default Thinking of Quitting? Here's some advice.

If you are thinking of quitting don't tell your immediate boss, go above them, don't quit mid-month do it first week of any given month so you get your full commission check, leave with class so you can get a new job, try not to take anyone down with you, it will make you look terrible, trust that you will find a better job there are tons of employers that will see your resume and contact you, get your resume on ALL career sites but know that if you do you are likely already on the way out (HR will find your resume and likely the AM will talk to you). Stay in contact with friends outside ERAC (contacts from college helped tremendously). They can refer you for interviews. If you are not happy with ERAC, quit. I did and I have my life back. I was dangerously close to simply fading out with tons of friends and even family members. To think I was sacrificing that to work for ERAC is scary. I don't have too many terrible things to say about ERAC, but just look at the job description and ask yourself if this is what you want to do with your time...One last thing, I quit without having the new career lined up. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but if you do go this route, set a goal to interview 5 times a week. Hope this helps...

Another piece of advice, get some new white shirts for your interviews. Most likely after washing cars for several years with the help of your college degree, your existing shirts will be a lovely shade of gray. You may have to put them on your credit card because you obviously won't have spending cash if you work at ERAC. Also do not be scared because ERAC has been your life since college and all of your friends are ERACers. You will soon learn to have discussions about other conversation topics besides dub and who's screwing the hot new MT at 91. Plus, most of your friends will quit soon anyway and will respect you for doing it first.

I got fired from ERAC about a month ago. Honestly, it was the best thing that could've happened. I was getting complacent in a job with no present, let alone no future simply for the paycheck. I lost touch with my life outside of ERAC, and made my roommate hate me because of the bitter, depressed person ERAC made me. If you're wanting to quit, do it, even if you don't have anything else lined up. And, just for fun, when you give your two weeks notice, make their life a living hell, because they'll try to make your life as bad as they can for quitting on the cult. Personally, I think ERAC is a lot like a gang, only every member of the gang is a walking vagina, and the big, strong, dominant penises of the world stand out of the crowd because of their superiority, which makes the spongy vagina crew uncomfortable. They make it seem as if the only way out is a life devoid of any superior opportunity, but mostly it's a feeble attempt at a beat-down type initiation, but the only thing they use to beat you down is their spongy beefcurtains. It feels a lot like fanning yourself down on a hot day with a wet towel.

In hindsight, I would've probably quit Enterprise after Christmas and New Year holidays so that I could've collected my holiday pay and so that I wouldn't have gone to Vegas and lost over a thousand dollars at the poker tables. I'm a good player, but just had a horrible run. I know, they all say that right?

Where am I at now? I'm living in the San Francisco bay area in the biotech industry making 60k a year working a measly 7 to 8 hours a day where half the time I'm sipping on coffee/tea, eating free company lunch at meetings, chatting with my co-workers and ridiculously cool supervisors, and getting free massages from professionals. I started here in the beginning of February.

Not all Enterprise employees or former employees are lacking in intelligence. Perhaps they were slackers in college and lack the desire, motivation, and persistence to succeed and set goals to be achieved in life. I was one of those individuals, as I'm sure the poster above me was as well. But hey, better late than never! Oh, and there are occasions when the market in 2000 was terrible and some individuals chose a career path in ERAC over other less stable careers, which is understandable.

Yes, I make as much as the branch managers that have worked 5+ years and I'm working half the hours that they have to work. Most importantly, I feel like I am learning everyday and the knowledge and experience I gain from this career will propel me to great achievements one day. I actually feel important now, while working at Enterprise I felt like a slave being brainwashed everyday. I had customers constantly telling me that I was too good for the job.

In the end, Enterprise has a done a great job in making me appreciate life and it's opportunities more! I'm sure back in the branch the brainwashed co-workers are telling everyone that I failed and couldn't hack it. Yeah...ok, the department head senior scientist, my boss, makes more than Mike Edwards the Vice President. We'll see who has more success in 10 years...

I agree with the last guy......Start looking for a job before you quit. Not that ERAC will give you time off to interview, or do any phone interviews, but get an idea of what you want to do. I was with ERAC for 2 yrs and made it to an ASST MGR. After Erac, pharmaceuticals, Insurance, Payroll, etc.. are all available jobs that recruiters will push on you. These are are good jobs, but I held out because I was not 100% about them (like I was about ERAC and we all know how that road leads) and found a job on my own after more time and hard work but am getting paid for it. Not only am a making a really comfortable living, I have a life again. I forgot what it was like to not have to worry about not eating lunch, having to work on weekends, work at nights for no reason (airport). I am able to go out after work with friends and co-workers and have fun and not be tired and dread working the next day for 11 hrs and deal with complaints and washing cars. Erac is good for a few things: 1. Any job after this will be better!!!!
2. It is a job after college that pays the bills (barely)
3. You learn where to find inexpensive shirts because you ruin them
4. A job where you come in reeking of booze and your manager even
smells worse because he/she was out with you the night before

Excellent post :):) but what I liked best about it was your 1-4 numbered items .... dead on target :) :)

One thing that I NEVER understood about ERAC is that, since they are in the "transportation business" and at the same time pump their employees full with booze at those "happy hours" who then drive off afterwards ... some as far away as 40+ miles ... I was at ONE of those "socials" and was totally disgusted, but moreover perplexed why on earth ??? a company like ERAC would actually support these drinking binges and chance DUI's for their employees ... W H O can offer a feasible explanatin to this ? ???

Thanks .. contracheck :)

Oh man, hopefully the event you are talking about is the Christmas party. It is down to perfection. All upper-management personal make an appearance for the typical bullshit, but will exit pretty early in the evening. There are multiple "open bars" all over the place with no need for drink tickets. When its a collection of 5,000+ people it gets out of control. A lot of shit goes down that evening to make an interesting Monday the following week.

The anticipation of the Christmas party was actually a big turnoff for me. Before my fellow co-workers knew that I was quitting, I told them that I didn't want to go because I felt that I would be mostly around people that I have never met in my entire life. It seemed like a big frat party to me, as if I was still stuck in college. Rather than paying their employees a bonus, they motivate us to stay with a big beer fest.

I actually quit right before the Christmas party began. Did anyone here get to go? If so, how was it?
