Default Lake Forest location on Rockfield

Car broke down on freeway, got towed to VW dealer in Irvine, CA. Dealer is hooked up with Lake Forest Enterprise location on Rockfield. Really nice Enterprise shuttle guy came and picked me up--told him I needed a small, inexpensive car for 1-2 days max while my car was being repaired. Got to Enterprise, and all they had left were three vehicles--crappy, expensive selection:

1.) Dakota pickup ($59.99/day)
2.) Ford Escape ($69.99/day)
3.) Toyota Avalon (w/leather; $79.99/day)

Was told #1 was the cheapest, but since my own car is a small sedan, I didn't feel comfortable handling a pickup. So i chose the next, least expensive vehicle--the Escape.

With my dealer's discount, the rental was $69.99/day. I was like, 'are you kidding me?' I normally spend no more than $40/day on car rentals. I decided to suck it up and pay it because I was desperate. Don't have anyone that could pick me up or take me around. I then got the B.S. rundown on the insurance coverage, which i think is a big scam.

Then, on top of getting ripped off, the car is FILTHY. There's a friggin car wash right next door that's STILL OPEN. Granted, I understand that Enterprise was about to close (it was 6pm), but it would've taken the guy maybe 10 mins to get the car washed (customer service??). Nope, gave it to me 'as is'. Was obvious the car had just gotten back from a road trip--dead bugs all over the windshield, which made it hard to see. Tried cleaning it with the wipers--no dice.

I won't rent from Enterprise again, no matter where I am.

Not having a clean car is inexcusable, yes.
I know you are trying to save a few bucks, but an extra $30 bucks a day certainly won't bankrupt you (I hope). You are probabaly facing huge reapir bills anyway.
The funny thing about insurance is, that no one wants it when they don't need it but everyone wants it when they need it. If you got hit after pulling out of the lot, would you think the insurance was a scam then? If not, then it wasn't a scam before. The sales tactics are fucked up at times, I agree with you there. Go to Hertz.

**Actually, my repairs were covered by my warranty. Saving a few bucks is really important with the cost of living here. Didn't have a choice on where to go (dealer or rental car location), but definitely do normally. I'll make sure my employer doesn't reserve any cars through Enterprise moving forward.

I have a question for the customer who feels like he was ripped off.

Hypothetical question: Lets say you took a road trip, and you were driving through Vegas, and your car broke down, and you needed to stay in a hotel for a night. You went to the MGM because in the past you paid $100 for a night. But this weekend because there was a large convention in town along with many tourist, the only available room was $200/night. You, of course thought it was ridiculous, and think the MGM is ripping you off. So you call every hotel in the area, only to find out that $200 was the going rate. Do you still feel the MGM is ripping you off?

I agree that the car cleanliness was disappointing, but why do you feel that you should be entitled to a small car price when you have no reservation for one, and they have none available. Did you receive some options?

You certainly have choices. And if you didn't like the rates, you could have choose to find another alternative. But to say you would never rent from Enterprise again is like saying you would never stay at the MGM again. It doesn't make sense, and is kind of ignorant if you ask me.

Get mad at the dealership. If your car was under warranty they should have picked it up and gotten reimbursed from the other dealership

You always have a choice of where to go. They recommend a place to youy because they have a relationship with Enterprise. Don't try and tell me there weren't at least two other rental car companies within 3 miles.

ERAC saw the opportunity to take advantage of someone's misfortune so they did. Quite acting like the branch did this guy a favor. That is your business -try customer service for a change. Quite blaming the customers for needing rentals. Without customers - no commission checks!

You are dumb as a mule and probably twice as ugly. Nobody blames the customer for needing a rental, they blame the customer for bitching and moaning about the price and being offered (only) three options without a reservation. If you walk up to an airport counter ten minutes before boarding of a flight to purchase a ticket and they are actually able to accomodate you with a first class ticket, don't complain. You are lucky to get that. The other poster was right. Why are you mad at ERAC when your car was under warranty? The dealership should pay the bill.
