Default Reasons why ERAC is a bad place to work EVEN in Houston Texas!

Very good accurate post from someone in houston. I like how he said the airport is considered the "Best of the Best" as is here.

I really don't even know where to begin. I ranked these in order of importance.

1. Pay - Is utterly laughable. As a Management Trainee, you make about $850-$950 every bi-monthly paycheck. Multiply that by 24. If that isn't enough to scare you away, read on.

2. Work/Life Balance - In Group 06 (Houston), you are based on a 49-hour work schedule. Which means you really end up working about 55 hrs/wk. At the local branches, you're expected to arrive at 7:15 am, and stay until the last customer has been taken care of (which is usually around 6:30 pm), and aren't allowed to leave until all the branch duties have been completed. (Callbacks, Courtesy calls, carwashing...etc.) At the Airport, the hours are totally F@#$%ed. Employees rotate shifts from 5:30 am to after Midnight. 7 days a week. You have NO set schedule. It changes every week. You wake up, go to work, come home, dick around for about 3 hours until you eventually fall asleep from exhaustion. Then you do it all over again.
So basically, you have no life. Especially at an Airport branch. Your days off then become so precious to you that anytime something arises that cuts in to your free-time you become ultra cranky and bitter.

3.Career/Potential Growth - The system is based on starting at the bottom of a crap cake, and eating your way to the top. It really is performance based. So if you do well, you will be noticed. However, it is VERY competitive. The main people that do well are brainwashed douchebags who will turn your stomach with every word that comes out of their mouths. Pretty much every Branch Manager and above are this way. If you aren't a slimy salesperson, stay away from this job. You won't do well. Promotion is based on Insurance sales stats, Gas Collection, upselling, Corporate leads, and (most importantly) how enthusiastically you can let very rude people walk all over you. They call it ESQi.

4. Respect - At airport branches, about 80% of the business are rude, condescending pompous Corporate jerks who think you are worthless. You are just the "rental car" guy. Have fun selling insurance to them. At local branches, most customers just got into a wreck are are pissed off at life, only to waltz in to your store and demand the unattainable.
With the exception of Assist. Managers, your supervisors don't care what you think. Your job is to keep customers happy and coming back. In a manager's eyes, no matter what the situation is, the customer is always right. And they will side with them 100% of the time. Some managers will only even talk to you when they're riding you about something. Usually about your stats or customer satisfaction or building your "career" with Enterprise. After all, the more people they get promoted, the better they look.

5. Work Environment - First off, you have a VERY strict dress code. Girls can pretty much wear whatever they want as long as it's business-like and not too sexy. But guys must wear a suit and tie every day. And it's not like you're sitting on your butt in an A/C room. You're frantically walking around breaking a sweat for 10-11 hours a day. And here in Houston, it's not exactly cool outside. Have fun washing cars in the sun. Also, you might want to buy some cushiony inserts for your dress shoes because you're on your feet all day.

6. Benefits - I'm pretty healthy. Never had to use them. I guess they're OK.

7. Co-Worker Competence - I've met a lot of really cool people at Enterprise. All in the same boat that I am. Hardworking, smart people--all with college degrees. All totally conned. Stay tight with them because they're looking for a new job just like you and could be a great networking device. Then you have your screw-ups. People that have been Management Trainees for years with no promotion, but are too dumb/lazy to get a different job. They're slackers and they make your job harder. Then you have the "Go-get'em" tools that, for some reason, love the crap out of this job. Their noses are so brown with upper management stank that you can't even stand the sight of them.

8. Job Security - You'd have to be pretty pathetic to lose your job here. The turnover rate is so high that they NEVER let anyone go for poor performance. If you do something crazy at work or get a DWI, that's the only way they'll let you go.

9. Location - Enterprise is EVERYWHERE. You never notice them until you start looking. They are seriously like Starbucks. At one point, I lived 3 1/2 minutes away from my workplace.

Summary - Enterprise Rent-a-Car will make you a depressed unhappy person. My friends and family hate this job almost as much as I do because of the negative, bitter person it has made me. They make you work long hard hours for peanuts and really want you to be proud of it. They even call those chosen to go to the Airport the "Best of the Best" program. They've become so successful with this slave-labor by constantly dangling a piece of cheese called promotion in your face to remind you of what "potential" you have to earn at ERAC. Just think, in 15 years you could be a millionaire. It takes a strong person to swallow that much BS for so long.

However, ERAC does have an extensive training program. You will learn how to make money, delegate tasks and how to become an efficient manager. A program that is highly regarded by other companies. They know how hard ERACers work and love to scoop them up after they've put some time into this joke of a company.

So my advice....Live with family or friends. Work for Enterprise for 1 year. Save as much money as you can. Try to make Assistant Manager or Management Assistant to gain experience that looks good on a resume. Quit. Run. And never look back.
