Default Brother just promoted. What does it mean?

My brother works for Enterprise now and has about 3 years in with them at this point. He does not have his completed college degree, but has about 3 1/2 years of schooling toward a BA in Business. I want to know what his recent promotion really means to his bottom line. Supposedly he is Manager of a non airport, non dealership branch. He says he will get a portion of the branch profit as some kind of commission. He wants to buy a house and plans to pay some of his condo mortgage partially with his new commission. Is this a reasonable thing to do or is he fooling himself about the stability of the manager "commission"?

My dealings with Enterprise as a customer have often been a bit dicey. I don't want my brother to get into a bad situation because he believes the company rhetoric about vast profits to be made by managers. Can anybody tell me what is realistic for his financial future in this area? Also, is he promotable past his current level without a completed college degree or will he be a branch manager forever? I am obviously concerned about him. I know very little about the corporate structure inside Enterprise so I am looking for the real scoop from other people who have worked there. Your help and ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Depends on the branch's profitability and the % commision they gave him. I made a lot of money with ECRAP when I was a manager, but I have known others that were in branches that didn't make crap. Now if your brother took 3 years to promote I am thinking he must have some morals and didn't try to get promoted at all costs. This being the case I would suggest he complete his degree while working there then get the hell out.

Back in the day in would mean he would make about $45K working about 60 hours a week. That is about $14/hour. Kind of sucks to have to work your way UP to that. His best option, coming from someone who put in five years, is get the degree, use ERAC as income til done, then go find a new career. The three years on the resume will open a lot of doors. Add the completed degree in, and minimum you are looking at same pay, 40 hours, incredibly less stress. Or you find something actually good, and make a lot more money.

Lots of employers scour Monster, Jobing, and CareerBuilder looking for former ERACers. I have hired six myself. Anyone that can do that for more then a year or two either has a crazy work ethic, or is psycho.

Tell him to use it to his adavantage, then go make some real money
