| Unions are cool if you're planning on being an MT or an MA for a while. While going to college I worked at a supermarket which was unionized. I worked there for five years, and there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Unions work on senority to get promoted which kind of sucks when you want to move to a different position and someone out bids you because they were hired before you. Also many unions have not only monthly dues but a one time initation fee, I think mine ten years ago for a bagger was like $120.00 plus there's a new fee everytime you change classifications. If you don't mind being an MT or an MA for awhile then the union is the way to go, but for a position for an MT you are really supposed to get promoted as fast as possible. Once you're in managment you're out of the union. Also if they call a strike be prepared for no paychecks for the duration of the strike. in supermarkets many people kept a strike fund going. Not too sure if any MTs could swing a month with out pay. I know I couldn't. |

Unions had their place in the 1800's and maybe in the early 1900's, but now the only service they function is to ensure that the cashier at the over-priced grocery store you go to only when you don't feel like driving over to Wal-Mart is paid $18 / hour to pass your purchases over a computerized scanner. Myself, I would say, "Go to college and get yourself a real education, you f*ck, and stop trying to make me pay far more for my groceries than the good people of Taiwan or Indonesia can provide for me.." erac_whore |

| I worked in admin for GP55 with asshole Mckee and his band of bumbling dimwits in Birmingham. Union...are you kidding me....in this redneck good ole boy network. They would make sure you were fired as soon as possible if you even mentioned that word to them. And fuck going into management. Trust me, i did it. I busted my ass 70 hours a week at the airport, was promoted to admin and realized as my friends made three times my salary writing loans working there own schedule that ERAC was raping me in the ass. | I am hearing more union talk in the company again. Is it true? |
| |||
| Have the UAW Reps contact Group 50. MT's have already been talking about this! This company has sooooo many worker violations, e.g. when is the last time you took your two 15 minute breaks? Not to mention 10 minute lunches if non at all. Its like working @ a sweatshop except you must be presentable with a tie even after washing cars all day only to have managers/customers yell @ you when you return! Go UAW!!!!!!!! |

| I worked for ERAC for 7 years off and on. As a 26 year old I opened an office because I was out marketing and managed to get a dealership takeaway. I contributed to the financial well being of a small town and at the same time increased my paycheck. If ERAC is unionized, this can't happen. ERAC becomes a dead corpse that you will feed off of until it has no nourishment to offer. I am blown away right now. If mt's unionized, it would destroy the ERAC business model that has been successful for decades. There would be no positions to be promoted to. Perhaps the destruction of ERAC is the aim of some of the people on this site. If you are concerned about about violation of labor laws then report it to your hr dept. If that doesn't work then go to www.dol.gov. That's the web site for the dept of labor. If pay is your concern then go on the open market and find out what you're worth. Unemployment is at record lows. It's a buyers market so to speak. My feeling is that some of you have, and were disapointed by the results so now you're looking to a group who is destroying the U.S. auto industry. Unions preach puting the needs of the group ahead of your own financial interest. Meaning the strong will carry the weight of the weak and if they can't then you will strike. You don't get a paycheck when you strike. If that ideal sounds leftist to you well, that's because it is. And your paycheck will go to leftist politicians who support those ideals. The U.S. economy is on fire right now (inspite of GM and Ford, thanks UAW) and it is because we determine our value and in doing so we increase our productivity. I wasn't happy with my compensation so I got a new job. I live in a country where I am free to make such deccissions. So when a union organizer calls, tell him to go organize more illegal alien amnesty rallies. And I'm not joking, they really do this. Sounds like a weird way to help the wages of the American worker but whatever. I guess increasing your pool of potential members is the important thing. |
