| whats really sad about this post is females have a hard time staying in gp62 and I don't think you can count on 2 hands how many L3s or managers out there that are female in gp62. The list, half of these women no longer work for erac. but i know for certain hopkins introduced herself to every manager/L3, so she would win the vote because none of us want to vote other wise since we already did that |

When men have kids they take 1 week off and get back in there, with women there is the issue of whether or not they will go back to work arises, and if so, do they want to work 50+ hours and be away from their kids all day every day? Just like with racial minorities - how many are Level II or III at ERAC? Group 62 pays some lip service to diversity, but you can't just attract minorities to the company simply because you talk about it. And you can't attract minorities simply because your advertising and promotional materials have the non-threatening black guy, the asian woman, and the happy hispanic man plastered all over them. The bottom line is that white males used to get by in business because they were white males. However, in the last 15-20 years, the white male has gone from the oppressor to the oppressed (see: affirmative action), and the "root of all evil". So, white males learned they had to work hard to get ahead, because females and minorities were being given chances that were formerly not available to them. A driven white male is a force to be reckoned with in the auto industry, which is dominated by white males (women are about as excited about cars as white men are excited about shopping). Just like it would be wierd to see a male high up in Marth Stewart's organization, it is uncommon to see a female rise to the top of a company in the auto industry. Couple that with the fact that in ERAC, there is no affirmative action, the merit-based system doesn't allow for it. ERAC is always going to be a tough nut to crack for women. For racial minorities, it is a matter of the sheer lack of numbers of them coming through the system. I mean, how many african-americans interview with ERAC for every white candidate? 1 in 20? Many women and african-americans are more comfortable working for a company that has affirmative action in place (see: State Farm). I don't blame them one bit, but I also don't blame ERAC for setting up the performance-based promotional system. Despite its faults and personal biases, it is the most pure way to decide promotions in a company. Has there ever been an african-american area manager or city manager in GP62? How about an african-american level III of any kind in the group? It would seem strange that in almost 15 years of the group's existence that there hasn't been one, but I can't remember any off the top of my head. |
