Memorable scams customers pulled to get free rentals

You know we all remember them... customers would come up with the most bizzare stories "and you better give it to us for free, or we'll have your job -- I KNOW the owner of this place..."

My favorite was the family who rented a malibu to go to some family funeral. They brought back some heirloom family bible from the deceased's house... on the ride home the little kid found a crayon or marker under the seat and drew all over this irreplacable valuable bible and it's all our fault...

(nobody ever questioned why a three year old was playing with said bible of such value unattended....)

Guy came into our branch about a year ago and returned a badly damaged truck (insurance rental, took DW)...and that was the last day they were going to pay for it...he wanted to switch out into another vehicle...but demanded a discount because of the "lost time" he had when he damaged the truck. I tried not to laugh, because they insurance company was paying 31.99/day for a truck, and he wanted a discount off that rate when our retail rate was over 75/day for it....and he refused to pay the money, so he walked home.

there was this one guy that came in and demanded a free rental. when we asked him why, he snatched out my fellow employee's eye like uma thurman did in kill bill vol. 2. after a rousing laugh we all headed down to the neighborhood pub. my fellow employee is now blind in his right eye after some idoit spilled salt on his torn out eye. talk about stupid!
